  • Hi!

    Hi!

My name is Kashmala, and umm I have joined PF because I wanted to learn more about my culture. Originally my family is from Afghanistan but my grandparents (or great grandparents?) took refuge in Pakistan and that's where my parents were raised. I myself was raised in UAE and still live here.
My whole family speaks Pashto but I dont D: I don't get much of a chance to learn from my parents and my grandparents live in Pakistan where we don't visit much. I really wanna learn Pashto and/or Dari :D
Lots of people tell me I don't even look Pashtun (is that the right term?) or Afghan and that REALLLYYY bugs me .___. esp because when I tell them I am originally Afghan they start speaking Dari or Pashto and then I have to tell them that I don't speak either .. baaaah.

I like wasting money and learning languages and glitter.
I really dunno what more to say LOL.

    THANKS FOR READING THISSSS :D

Then make pashto speaker friends and try to talk with them in pashto as much as you can. After learning basic pashto, start watching pashto channels or pashto videos in youtube.

Between you are saying that your whole family speak pashto, if that is the case then dont feel shy in asking them about pashto words and sentences. Even if they are getting annoyed, be persistant, it is your right to learn pashto from them.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
