  • Hindus of Afghanistan

My grandfather was a land owner. he use to employ farmers to cultivate his land and harvest the fruit and vegetables. People would come from India to buy his fruit from Kabul and sell it in India.

His banker was a sikh. Likewise, many Hindus and sikhs in Afghanistan were skilled people who were business-owners and lived a prosperous life.

During the past 30 years all of that is gone.

There was an interview with Sikhs recently on the radio. They complained how after the fall of taliban, the warlords have taken their homes and land and prevent them from doing business by harassing them and extortion.

    I agree

    Thanks for Sharing.
It makes me PROUD to see that our Hindus outside Afghanistan identify themselves as Afghans.
I agree with you. Not only Hindus were the victims of war,but also other afghans.
Not only Hindu temples have been destroy during war,but also Mosques.
The tragic of 1992 is sad, very sad and very unbelievable. How can someone destroy the temples or mosques of his countrymen ?
We can only hope to repair the minds of our evil leaders, the wounded heart of war victims , our mosques and temples.

Having experience of working in Gulf and far east ,I have seen that the only ideological group / nation which is at the peaks of professionalism , honesty and human values and virtues are Hindus. No offence intended , despite being superstitious they have a lot of qualities. They are family oriented people with oriental virtues. Highly intelligent and hardworking at the same time. Loyal to their jobs and professional in their conduct.

The system design for the world largest oil company ARAMCO is designed by our Indian and Shia colleagues. The other nations [including Americans ] had least contribution in it. In Pakistan, the books referred to in engineering ,medical, social sciences and physical sciences are mostly by Indians. Though India is a developing country and they have insurgencies by naxalites and others, but if India overcomes the North South differences [which may poetentially divide India] then I see all the potential required to become the next super power in India.

I wish the Afghan Hindus retain the same qualities and benefit Afghanistan.

I wonder when will humans overcome their unwarranted religious intolerance once and for all. Why can't we be just humans and live together? Thanks for sharing, Hindupashtun. The article just blew my mind =(

Being active in mosque, temple, synagogue and church is the private affair of a person. However what I would recommend to the Hindu Afghans is that they should think of the ways and means to contribute to the economy and stability of Afghanistan using their skill and expertise.

I am proud Hindu and thousands of us exist in Kandahar. Where are you from?
I am sangar. with a new nickname. Hi! I am from Kabul. I believe I told you before.

Well, the think is, being culturally a muslim is useless. Islam is about submission to one true deity. One god. And to believe in him alone and none other. And to worship him alone and none other. And not to associate any other with him in prayer, worship etc. And to believe in all of his names and attributes.

If you want to learn more about Islam, let me know, I can give you a few ebooks that could explain things clearly.

Hindus in afghanistan from india few hundreds years ago. They are now respectful citizens of afghanstan (and are afghans) but they are not pashtuns. You have to be pashtun by blood in addition to speaking pashto.

thats a false argument. Because you think your religion is older, then it must be the truth?

Let us put it like this: do you believe in one god or in many different gods?

We have been in Afghanistan for thousands of years since Hinduism has started.

Did you take History class in Pakistan? That might explain a lot.
Hindus and sikhs in kandahar have migrated from india few generations ago.

                            those in pakhtunkhwa were aborigins

We have been in Kandahar since like forever. We can trace back at least 5-6 grandfathers easily. We have an entire business area dedicated it to us its called Hindu chowk.

In Kandahar the locals respected us a lot. We were not considered aliens. In Kandahar we were all Kandaharis.

Every Kandahari used to call us Hindus as lala or big brother. In schools we were very respected we were not being discriminated at all. We even had temples in Kandahar. Kandahar was the most tolerant place in the world in my opinion. No one cared what you believed in. But all of a sudden in the 80 and 90s due to Pakistan things changed and they started sending us extremists which tried to make us radicals. But still to this day the locals are very tolerant.

I am a proud Hindu and I proudly believe in my Religion. I can speak Pashto. I can read Pashto and I can write Pashto. I learned this in Kandahar. We had very good jobs Gulalai.
Thanks Hindupashtun. I wished if things would not had turned ugly for you people but your situation is not different than majority of Pashtuns today who are in severe affliction due to war, religious extremisim, and the recent natural calamities. Glad to know about you and it was a wise decision to leave Afghanistan. I also want the minorities in Pakistan to leave the terrorist country. The way Christians were burnt to death for unknown reasons is highly barbaric. Last month, a kid from a Hindu family drank water from a mosque in the Memon Goth area of Karachi, and they were forced to leave their own area. Religious intolerance is our great enemy and we must fight against it by accepting each other as humans first rather than anything else.
