This point has been explained to me years before I even came on to this forum. As with all the other inacccurate stereotypes this is yet another one to add to the list.

Chitralis are actually well known even amongst Pashtuns to sell girls.
Not really propaganda as I've seen it with my own eyes. But can't say same for Chitrali girls. There is big mafia network out there who act as middle men. In general buying afghan brides is looked down upon and only desperate creeps indulge in this practice, they are not really looking to settle down on permanent basis. I mean this so called marriage isn't genuine.

As far as genuine inter ethnic marriages in Pakistan, that only happen in cities among well of educated class where concept of selling, buying etc doesn't exist among any ethnic group.

They are not selling daughters to brothels. In punjab only people of low social status buy afghan girls for marriage. Girls brought with money are treated like commodity and some of them end up in brothels because after divorce no one marry them.

One of my relatives bought a woman from Chitral many years ago. She now has grown up very well educated children and is well looked after like a normal wife shhould be. I also know many Pashtuns that have paid a "bride price" for a Pashtun woman. Those women have not been bought as a commodity but the people that paid money have married them like they would with any normal arranged marriage. However I do not know where the money that was paid to the girls parents went.

As for Afghan women being sold I don't have much information on that. But on a slightly different note, God forbid Pakistan had to face 40 years of war.... do you think Pakistani women would fare any better? Since many people are quick to point out how Afghan women are involved in the sex trade in Pakistan, how many Pakistani womendo you think would resort to falling into the oldest known profession should there be a decades long war in Pakistan?

So what happened to all that talk about about great relations between Pashtuns and Chitralis? Pretty lame that you'd lie about us just because someone is accusing your people of selling their daughters.

If you don't like hearing that about your people, and don't believe it, what makes you think we're cool with you saying the same?

It's save to say this practice is looked down upon and generally people who buy brides treat them like prostitutes. This practice should be discouraged even if part of one culture.

This guy created an account on this forum solely to lie about this lol.

              I bet it's Karachi.

By "bride price" are we referring to mahr? Mahr is an Islamic practice, why would anyone try to call it selling? The problem with some Pashtun marriages is that the family of the wife doesn't give it to her or spend it on her, but the idea that it's "selling" isn't true, because even when the father keeps the money, he wont just marry his daughter to the highest bidder without regard for who the guy is.

As for the supposed involvement of Afghan women in Pakistani prostitution, it's a stupid lie created by Punjabis whom know that honor is very important to us. That doesn't mean there are zero Afghan prostitutes (of course not), but even in Afghanistan the prostitutes (and there were a lot of them at the height of the NGO presence) were mostly imported from places like China. Most prostitutes in Pakistan belong to Punjabi families that have worked in that business for generations, and that's a well-known fact. Any look into Pakistani prostitution will show this. This isn't a lame attempt at denigrating all Punjabis (who mostly despise the people who do this and look down upon them like any other people outside the West), like those who claim that there are a lot of Afghan prostitutes in Pakistan, it's just a fact.

I think you have got my point. We don't sell our daughters. We marry them. Its the difference in culture that creates the misunderstanding. You should have a thorough knowledge before making a sweeping generalizations about an ethnicity before accusing them of such a heinous crime of selling their own blood for a paltry money of 50 thousand. Would you ever think of selling your daughter? Same is the case with us. We don't sell them. Case dismissed.
