  • Gurkhas owe a lot to their British masters

I found this Photograph in book "The Campaign in Tirah, 1897-1898: An Account of the Expedition Against the Orakzais and Afridis Under General Sir William Lockhart" by Henry Doveton Hutchinson, 1898..........it is captioned as ""Gurkhas--The Raw Material" and "Gurkhas--The Finished Article"

They had little or no martial worth and reputation before the British invested in them...........barely clothed and carrying a knife as a weapon, and unknown......They were nobodies in the history of India..... British created/manufactured soldiers from the 'raw material'........no wonder they are still serving in the UK army, entire military history of Gurkhas revolve around Angraiz

50% of pashtun men doing bacha bazi is not a trait of a warrior race, rather a gay frustrated race

And yet somehow you see yourself as some credible authority even though your ancestors were doing this for the British. Pathetic.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

Basically, you're saying slavery is better than some made up statistic that has no academic basis . Being paid to sit on your knees and fan a British person while he sits back and relaxes as his people rule over YOUR OWN homeland? They didn't even have labor laws then, who are you fooling? Yep, you're mentally colonized.

That doesn't mean that you have some authority of what makes a warrior, you're clearly NOT warriors. No one would take pride in kneeling in front of a foreign invader and fanning him to keep him comfortable. That's simply the sign of people who have lack respect for themselves.

They weren't workers, and you know it, back then British India didn't have wage earners who were natives. So no, not better at all, you're lying to yourself.

ofc British had natives who were wage earners and domestic servants. These are servant class of people, not warriors. They were just doing a job, like many Pathans work in Punjab as domestic drivers and errand boys for rich families in Punjab. We have a Pathan driver who also does all our outside stuff, like going to market and buying our groceries and bringing that home, but nothing wrong with it, we pay him good wages.

Do you know why they took the picture?

Its a historic picture. Not just some worker. You don't take picture of workers. That was a picture of British master and Indian slaves. Its a historically photo of British colony of India. And you know what happened in coloniesd? There were masters and slaves.

Exactly , you pay him GOOD WAGES, Indians however were under the mercy of British Colonial heel. You guys were doing stuff basically for free and under threat of imperial dominion.

A driver would have workers rights in modern Pakistan, you'll never see him kneel in front of a Farangi like your grandfather did.

Maajara, perhaps you did not properly understand the information i shared on this thread and the intent behind it. There have been very large number of desertions from Khyber Rifles, Wana Scouts, Tochi scouts etc which constitute FC nowadays and these well-trained deserters were the ones who were headache for the British... There are no other examples or versions like Gurkhas in subcontinent. Not a single case of desertion or rebellion from Gurkha units against Ferangis. Thats why Gandhi badmouthed them.

The only paramilitary unit which remained fully loyal to British, was Kurram militia consisting of Turi tribesmen and they did so because they needed British protection from Sunni tribes around them.
