Sikhs are usually more fair skinned and have different features than most Indians. That doesn't make them Pashtun.
The ones living in Fata and KP still speak Punjabi , so I'd say that they are of Punjabi origin hence not Pashtuns.
By the way, I've heard locals speak good about them ,their morals and honesty.
Haven't had much interaction myself.

Thats true. I have interacted with some Sikh shopkeepers and i must say they are perhaps most honest and good shopkeepers in Peshawar. Peshawar is hub of "garnkapi" so one appreciate the honesty of Sikhs more. They are from the famous trading Khatri caste of Punjab so many be it has some thing to do with it.

Probably it is a result of kidnapping Pashtun women and children and turning them into Sikhs, which did happen during the turmoils of the 18th and 19th century. The kidnappings went both ways. It happens in war.

Or may be your eyes are not used to seeing Punjabis with beards and speaking Pashto ?
Most of them look like Punjabis. Some are very lighter in skin tone (but still having non-Pashtun facial features) because they have blood of Kashmiri Hindus with whom they intermarried before 1947 ( a big chunk of Hindus in Peshawar and Kabul were from Kashmir settled there during Durrani reign)

That makes sense. Ive seen a few who had red hair beards(not the mehndi kind) and colored eyes and thats what brought the question to my mind cuz i always assued they were the punjabis left over from failed occupations but anyways what you say seems to make sense.
Peshawari Sikhs all look the same because they have been marrying their first cousins for generations due to small numbers, therefore most of them have the generic round face look.
You should take a picture of these red bearded guys next time you come across them.
I saw a Sikh once when I was young (15/16 or so) in Peshawar. I was riding my bicycle, and I was looking at him. He was a grown guy, I was skinny and young. The guy made a threatening gesture right at me right on the spot.
