The chap playing Ahmad Shah Baba did a pretty good job. He was shown as an antagonist which from a Maratha point of view he certainly was. I feel sorry for the Marathas as their whole generation was practically annihilated.

I saw this series "The Great Marathas" years ago in the mid to late 90s.

"G.B.Tate, on the authority of Siya-ul-Mutakherin, states that, " 20,000 women and youths , the majority of whom belonged to families of Sardars and men of note in the Deccan , were taken alive and distributed among the Afghan chiefs. The descendants of the captives , which fell to the share of the Khan of Hoti near Peshawar, it is said, are still easily recognizable owing to their complexion and physique , which at this day differ from the Afghans of that place."

Exactly the point I make when it comes to explaining why some Pashtuns are very dark and Indic looking. They have been mixed in with populations like this. This particular group is but one which has been carried off back to Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan over the past hundreds of years. If you think about the countless other souls that have been carried back through Afghan/Pashtun invasions then it becomes clear.

            Where is that idiot Karachi?

brothar can you post photos of some Pashtunes who you are saying are very pure breeded. And can you post some who are Indic looking.

i dont think any maratha desendents living near Peshawar. why they would be taken there to live? maybe some boys were taken there for bacha baazi and some women taken for raping but they will not have desendents. its more BS story.

Eet is nawt BS story, desi ji. Victorious armies of the erstwhile days had set a precedent, that of carrying off chattel (slaves) who were eventually (yet marginally) absorbed into the relative base populations. Its an old order of maintaining racial purity by establishing a rigid tribal identity. There's no class in Pashtun society, however, these absorbed apus were confined to an ascribed station in the collective hierarchy. Are thou following, desi one? You want to see this system being practiced contemporarily? Head to Swat boi......

Although G.B.Tate opines that the distributed Maratha prisoners (women, girls, and children) were kept by the chiefs but i believe they sold most of the slaves to central Asian markets. When Pashtuns under the leadership of Aimal Khan destroyed the Mughal army at Khyber pass in 1672, the 20,000 captives , most of whom were Mughal women, were sent to Central Asia for sale. Diler Khan Daudzai from Peshawar, a brilliant general of Emperor Aurangzeb, captured thousands of Maratha women in his campaigns against Shivaji and sold them in slave markets of Central Asia. These were not artisans , karigar and would have been extraordinary burden on the improvised Pashtun chieftains. Its already an established fact that denizens of Pashtuns , who historically could not own lands, are mostly indigenous Punjabi-type people , the Hindkis, who got conquered by Pashtuns. Balochs also used to do the same, they would kill or chase away the land-owners (masters or rulers of the land) after the victory and would keep the artisans and other denizens of the area.

Well maybe if the Pashtun film makers stopped producing those soft porn disgusting fat sweaty grotesque caricature type movies they would have the time to depict the battle of panipat from their perspective. It is nonsensical to expect the enemy to show you in a good light.
