  • The Ormuri people

    Assalamualaikum,

My mother is a doctor in London. Zama mor doctor e. My father is a civil engineer. Zama abu civil engineer de. Za pe Pakhto khabare ne shem kawulai. So speak in English, please. My mother is Kashmiri. My father is Pakhtun. His family does not speak Pashto, only a few relatives do. My grandmother, who was born in Rawalpindi, and was the cousin of my grandfather, said that I am Afridi. The ancestors of my distant relatives were invited to live with some members of the Afridi tribe in Urmar Payan (District Peshawar). The ancestors of my immediate family are said to have come from the village of Urmar (District Karak). The Ormuri people are from South Waziristan. They are based in Kaniguram but are also found in surrounding areas such as Shakai valley and Kotkai. The Ormuri are spread out towards the rest of Pakistan. They adopt the language of the area they live in, such as Punjabi or Urdu. As a result the Ormuri language is dying out. Are the Ormuri people Pashtuns or a separate ethnic group? Does the Ormuri language mirror Pashto very closely? Do these settlements that have the name Urmar belong to the Ormuri Pakhtuns who immigrated to different places? If my family can be traced to Urmar (District Karak) and Urmar Payan (District Peshawar), does that mean that they are Ormuri from Kaniguram or surrounding areas?

As far as I know Ormuri is a Dialect of Pashto. But according to some it can be a sister language Pashto(although everything is same except pronunciation)!
Your Pashto is Standard not Ormuri as ut seems.
Ormuri is not dying because native speakers abandon it, but because many of them are adopting Standard Pashto of their region(Central/Southern Pashto for those living in Waziristan, Khost and surrounding areas plus Northern Pakhto for those living to the North of aforementioned places)
