  • Hazaras majority in Afghanistan before 19th century?

According to this page Hazaras were almost 67% of Afghanistan's population before a genocide was committed against them.
They were once the largest Afghan ethnic group constituting nearly 67% of the total population of the state before the 19th century. More than half were massacred in 1893 when their autonomy was lost as a result of political action. Today they constitute approximately 9% of the Afghan population.
Is this true or just misinformation and propoganda?

Obviously fallacious, where would they even get these numbers from? Census statistics weren't even taken then. I think this is the numbers Hazaras fed to this site. The site usually has pretty legit stuff.

Also, as economist Kaushik Basu says: "For a nation to progress it is important for people to spend time on science, mathematics and literature instead of spending time showing that 5,000 years ago their ancestors did science, mathematics and literature."

I guess, that if your gonna lie, lie big.

How can descendant of an invader race at any point be a higher than the number of actual natives?

Makes little sense. If anything we Persians have lost ground, Persians who showed even small Mongoloid, automatically were labelled ''Hazara'', since Mongoloid genes are dominant than Caucasoid. Central Afghanistan was completely Persian. Today there is a big gap between Persians in Herat/west Afghanistan and Tajiks in northeastern Afghanistan.

I have no probelm with Hazaras btw. as long as they don't act racist/ethno fascist towards other Afghan groups.

Actually Pashtun settlements in North in late 19th century protected their lands from raids of Turkmen and Uzbeks...it were them who were slavers and used to devastate Tajik areas of north, and some times forayed into hazarajat......

Study of Hazara history reveals that they were not angelic harmless beings or victims.....they were marauders and used to harass their neighbors and passing armies and used to loot caravans.....their raids against Abdalis forced the latter to seek protection of Safavids....and their attacks on Lohani Powindas forced the latter to seek the help of Jalala....Mughals have always complained about the marauding habits of Hazaras in their sources ......Hotak and Saddozai rulers left them alone and allowed their independence , why Hazaras do not talk about that?.....if Pashtuns were so genocidal and villainous, they would have invaded hazarajat much earlier in 18th century when they were at their peak and would have exterminated Hazaras. While reading about a campaign of Shah Hussain Hotak against Balochs, i came to know that he also had a contingent of Hazaras in his army.....Mahmud Hotak also had a contingent of Hazaras for his invasion of Persia......

I suspect the role of Iran in provoking Hazaras against Pashtuns, blowing things out of proportion and exaggerating the events of Amir Abdur Rahman's reign. Also i have observed that Pakistani Hazaras of Quetta are much hardliner and anti-Pashtun and have habit of speaking on behalf of their brethren in Afghanistan. The attacks of Lashkar Jangavi on them have understandably messed up their heads

That's what I thought. The level of oppression of Hazaras is often exaggerated.

In this case yes, even if the Kings wanted to do that, they didn't have the means. It would take an organized mass slaughtered on par with the Nazi genocide.

This doesn't mean Hazaras haven't been oppressed or marginalized in Afghanistan. But truth is truth and this isn't truth.

Thats because "Persians" from Herat and "Persians" from Northern Afghanistan are not the same people. They never been. We Heratis have a huge influence from our Persian cousins across the border but we are not Persians per se. Tajiks from northern provinces are not Persians at all. We share same language and have close culture and ethnic background... but we are not the same people.

Its BS. Reminds me of those Pashtun nationalists who claim they make up 62% of Afghanistans population.

Hazaras are annoying people. They are crying and playing the victim card all the day long. Some of their concerns are legit though.

Since no serious census has ever been conducted its pointless to even debate over this issue. Pashtuns might be 80% or 20%. Its impossible to prove. I guess we might find out soon an approximately data because new ID´s will include ethnicity.

BTW there are over two million Tajiks and Hazaras in Iran. Most of Afghans in Russia, Europe (except for the UK, Pashtuns are majority in there) and CAR´s are Tajiks too. Dont know about USA, never been there. So I guess we will never know the exact number but I am quite sure that Pashtuns are a minority group. Afghanistan is a country of minorities.
