Hindkis are mostly migrants from Punjab. Everyone in the region of NE Afghanistan & KPK (including Pashtuns) has at least partial genetic descent from Gandharis.

All the people of NE Afghanistan and NW Pakistan (including Pashtuns) have at least partial genetic descent from Gandharis, but no ethnicity is culturally descended from them.

Gandharans were 100% Punjabis and they ruled over all of modern day KPK and Jalalabad region, from Potohar Hills, Punjab. So were the Hindu Shahis, under kings such as Raja Jayapala who ruled over Afghanistan upto Kabul from present day Punjab. This sets a historic tradition of being ruled by Punjabis, continuing not only to the 19th century, when a Punjabi Jatt from Gujranwala carved an empire from their land and subdued them (Ranjit Singh) but also to the current day when Pakistan actively controls Afghanistan and destabilises it. Time of land grabbing/claiming has passed. Thats all I was trying to say. Gandharans, etc. had nothing to do with modern state of India, when IT was located in some Northwest Pakistani Region populated by people who were probably like Hunzas, Kashmirs, etc.
