Probably the most significant and well known phrase of Khushal Baba is "slay anyone who says pashtun and afghan are not one. Pashtun is Afghan, Afghan is Pashtun".
Another quote in which i am a huge advocate of and is advised to a steady future for our people.... "Though the fish may see on the hook a transient delight. The fish with prudence, will never look"

Khushal Baba has two phases of his eventful life, the first spent in the service of the Moghals and the second half endeavoured as a Pakhtun hero and warrior. He never tried to conceal his true self and has frankly admitted his association with the Moghals loudly in his poems. His poetry carries a chronological record of all events ,he went through his life.
Swat Nama narrates the " confessions" of Khushal Baba in a very bold manner. Look at a few couplets with English translation ;
Da Maghul da para maa toore wahale
Pushtano ba raa ta kre dere kanzale
"I fought for the Moghals with my sword and the Pashtoons used to abuse me for this."
Ka wrakzee dee ka Bangash ao ka Yousaf dee
Dvee hama zama da taigh pa ta'asaf dee
"Whether it is the Orakzais, Bangash or Yousafzais, they all are lamenting the fact that my sword is not on their side"
Pushtana me pa zargono dee wajalee
Pa saroono ba ye khra ghwaya lwashalee
" I have killed thousands of Pashtoons, so much so that the animals used to walk over their dead bodies"
Laa tar wosa da saroono yai anbaar de
Pa Attak pa Peshawar ke yai Minaar de
" Even now there are heaps of their skulls, while in Attock and Peshawar one can see their skull-towers still in existence"
Ka Maghul sara zama da zra ikhlaas wai
Khudai khabar de ka Pushtoon zama na Khlaas wai
"Had I been loyal to the Moghals,God knows if any Pashtoon could have been safe from my sword"
Nan da waaro Pushtano pa nang walaar yam
Daa che hase pa har dar har drang walaar yam
" I now stand for the honour of all Pashtoons, which takes me from house to house to beg for their help and unity"

He couldnt prosecute his vision of Pashtun unity because of his past. That was the obstacle. He didn't hide his past because he wanted to tell future Pashtun leaders not to repeat his mistakes. If one sides with pradee against his own people, the people will never put him on any pedestal.Originally posted by History of Pashtuns View Post(Ijaz Yousafzai's post, past member of this forum)

Dont know. Though he was a heavy critic of famous Afghan saint, Akhund Darweza and in Swat he was found criticizing him for not respecting ahle-i-bayat, that he was an ignorant mullah. This greatly angered many Yousafzais who greatly revered Akhund Darweza.....Khushal was called Kafir and Rafizi. Some Mullah from Yousafzais, challenged Khushal for manazra, which the latter won. All this went against him in his efforts to rally Yousafzais to his cause. He was also a great critic of Pir-i-Roshan, and i think called him a heretic. He was wary of his Afridi allies for their "heretical" ways (Afridis were followers of Pir-i-Roshan).Originally posted by Shapur View Post@History of Pashtuns

Mughal historian Khafi Khan mentions the participation of Ghilzais in this uprising (1672-1677) led by Aimal Khan, that they were defeated by Turani commander of Mughals, Aghar Khan. I wonder how much was the participation of Ghilzais, for they are numerous and would have turned the tides of war if all of them were involved it it. I am saying this, because in one of poem Khushal is saying that Mughals wont be able to stop them if Yousafzais join the war. Ghilzais and Abdalis , are larger tribes than Yousafzais. I have not read about Khushal visiting Ghilzai county.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

I doubt Khushal Khan Khattak would do that as he translated the works of Saadi Shirazi who was a Devish himself. Maybe Khushal Khan Khattak criticised certain fake individuals who pretended to be Devishes but I find it hard to beleive he crticised them as a whole.Originally posted by khushal View Postno, there are poems of his that criticize them.

There are poems of his that criticize them as a whole, there was a thread here on this forum that listed those poems. Let me see if I could find them.Originally posted by Shapur View PostI doubt Khushal Khan Khattak would do that as he translated the works of Saadi Shirazi who was a Devish himself.
