  • Did Qais Abdul Rashid really exist?

Apparently Qais Abdul Rashid Baba'so grave was found in Zhob a city in Balochistan.

According to legend all Pashtun tribes are descendants of his.

My own opinion of this is he did exist but he was a ruler of Ghoristan and the Sulaiman Mountains. However I doubt he was descended of Malik Afghana or all Pashtun tribes are his descendants.

He most likely didn't exist, if he did and was the "father" of all Pashtuns we would all belong to the same paternal haplogroup.

But how was his grave found in Balochistan. Though I agree he probably wasn't the father of all Pashtuns.

There is indeed Ziarat of Qais in Zhob. Who knows , may be many of the Pashtuns are indeed his progeny. But it seems the story that he was a Jew and was a Sahabi-i-Rasool, is stuff of myth and legend. Qais was perhaps his real name, 'Abdur Rasheed" was added to it, to make it sound 'Sahabi-ish'. If i am not wrong, presence of Afghans is recorded in Sassanid period, which invalidate Qais Abdul Rasheed existence in Prophet's time.

In early 17th century, A Persian Ambassador of Safavids made fun of Afghans in Mughal darbar while talking with Khan i Jahan Lodi. This motivated Khan i Jahan Lodi, he deputed Naimatullah Harvi to compile the genealogy of all Pashtun tribes. Naimatullah deputed five persons , Qutb Khan and Sarmast Khan Abdali, Hamza Khan Tokhi, Omar Khan Kakar and Zarif Khan Yousafzai to their respective territories to collect the material. So shajra-e-nasab is genuine but it seems the legend of Qais and his story already existed among all Pashtun tribes when men of Naimatullah recorded it. Akhund Darweza of 16th century also assign Bani-Isreal origin to Pashtuns.

I think the bani Israeli theory was created to give Pashtuns some leverage over Mug has or atleast seem superior by having holy lineage.

IMO this quote sums up the history of Pashtuns best.

"The Pashtuns began as a union of largely East-Iranian tribes which became the initial ethnic stratum of the Pashtun ethnogenesis, dates from the middle of the first millennium CE and is connected with the dissolution of the Epthalite (White Huns) confederacy. [...]"

Was Khan I Jahan Lodhi a Mughal governer? How could he let the Persian disrespect him like that?

What he could do about that in the darbar? the story was narrated to Emperor Jehangir. The Persian ambassador at Jehangir's court made the Afghans descendent of Devs (demons) in his story. The story is,

"Once King Zuhak, hearing of a race of beautiful women that lived in some far-off western countries, sent an army thither, which army was defeated by the beautiful women, but afterwards, a stronger expedition being sent under Nariman, they were reduced to sue for peace and gave in tribute a thousand virgins. When, on its return march, the army was one night encamped close to a wild mountainous country, there suddenly came down upon it a phantom, smote and scared the troops in all directions, and then, in that one night, ravished all the thousand virgins. In due time all became pregnant, and when Zuhak learnt this, he gave orders that the women should be kept in the remote desserts and plains lest the unnatural off springs should breed strife and tumult in the cities. This offspring was the race of Afghans"

If he existed then father could mean like father figure? And not in literal sense.

                          Not even in the slightest.

Pashtuns don't descend from a single ancestor like the Arabs or Jews do.

Most Pashtuns do belong to a single haplogroup.

Sure but isn't it something like 50.7%, btw are you considering getting tested? There's not many samples outside of Kurram and Kandahar.
