Back then, which Pukhtoon despite of growing up in Kabul plus having a Tajik mother, did?

Except for that his father till the day of today is very well known in Afghanistan, who indeed is a Pukhtoon.

U ought to listen to some of his songs...they are so deep and meaningful. When this month is over remind me to send u 2-3 songs by him.

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

i have heard diffirent stories about him. Tajiks from tajikistan claim he was tajik, whos family immigrated to afghanistan.. makes no sense.
Non pastun of afghanistan claim he was a tajik, who spoke persian and ethnically he was a pashai.
i was not able to find any reliable source about his tribe if he was a pashtun. i think he was anti-pashtun he does have few songs in pashto and pretty good one.

So because he spoke Dari as his first language he became an anti-Pukhtoon? Such claims are only made by anti-Pukhtoons because even his son is said to be married to a Pukhto speaking Kandaharei, and apparently that's also the language his kids speak. Nephew of his son's wife was a member on AF and he had even posted their wedding pictures.

Babrak Karmal was another famous personality that even though was a Tajak but claimed to be a Pashtun to win favor of the Pashtun majority.
Dear Toramana He Was Farsiwan I 100% agree, he was non-Pashtun I 100% agree, He was a Persian? where did you get that from?
non-Pashtun Culturally? lol you mean there is a Pashtun Culture and an Afghan culture wow something I learn lol? I am sorry but I don't want to be mean, Do you know what Culture means? As far as I know its "Afghan culture" which is alive in Afghanistan West of Durand line and also somewhat alive in some parts of Indian villages often nicknamed "Pathani towns!".

In Afghanistan, a number of non-Pashtuns claimed Pashtun descent to seek ethnic affinity with the ruling royal family.
My name is spelled Nikmohamad Ahmadzia, and according to my grandfather we are Suliman Khel, and my mother side ghura Khel. My grandfather was a professor in Kabul University teaching Dari literature, he never spoke a word of Pashtu with me all in Dari he also wrote the names of our 14th forefathers and also said we are native Shamaliwals. So I know damn well that who we are tribally and racially, but to the world ethnically we are Classified as "Tajiks" by native name we call ourselves Farsiwans. Hear this one. My cousins came from Iran, 2 younger ones were born in Iran and both the ones born and the ones refugee at young age were all classified in their documents as "Tajiks of Afghanistan" LOL interestingly but guess what their name is "Ahmadi" I am not even kidding LOL yes we are from same grandfather lol.
This is a reality we all don't have our tribal affiliated names. Today many people change their name if it was Amir Qasim, they go with Amir Qasim Salarzai LOL and this is new, but in old days it was your name and your fathers name lol both in Arabic name LOL. Nowadays its Your name and your Family name a proposal made by Tarzi in Government offices started recording names with First name and Family name, now its your name and your last name, so someone with Jamshed Sadozai would want to be Jamshed Durrani. Therefore Ahmad Zahir having his Father's first name "Zahir" is an high Laghmani official with 3 generation of being involved with Mohammadzai dynasty says enough about them being "afghan" Pashtun or not Pashtun, makes little difference to them since they choose to speak "Dari" and not Pashtu. Interestingly some of our singers still have their last name Naim Popal LOL go punch him in the face since he doesn't sing in Pashtu and barely knows Pashtu. LOL speaking of young generation there is guy whom i met in Canada a young singer Nawid Orakzai LOL doesn't know a word of Pashtu, you want more I will post more famous "Tajiks" with last names affiliated with Pashtuns. So what you say shell we start?

LOL very simple If Ahmad Zahir had his tribal affiliated name even if didn't spoke a word of Pashtu, then there would be no confusion to Toramana, and Toramana would of accepted him as a "Pashtun" just like he accepted PAkistan's National Security Adviser Mahmud Durrani as a Pashtun and Hamad Karzai as a Pashtun, LOL despite he knows little of Pashtu, and fluent in Dari, same applies to Mahmud Durrani, except only difference that Karzai is learning and is getting better but Mahmud lol never spoke Pashtu.

Nick! They believe in an ethnocentric version of nationalism which I guess will hardly be acceptible to even a very small fraction of Pashtun/afghan population to both sides of the Durand line. It is simply not a viable or workable idealogy for states to run.
