Let me sum it up. I'm going onto historical demographics, trying to figure out if NWFP was originally Punjabi speaking but over time was Pashtunized.
remember,
1. I'm not including FATA. FATA seems pretty Pashtun throughout history, was hard to control and pretty sure people there are very much Afghan, if there was a major Punjabis presence, tell me.
2. Dardic people lived in the North and they got displaced too.
3. I'm only talking about NWFP.
here's the timeline.
1. We had Hindkowan people dominate NWFP. Hindkowan means Indian speaking in Pashto or relating to Hindu Kush mountain or Indus river. There was a lot of Sikhs and Hindus as well as Muslims in history.
1.??? Did the Kabul Shahi relate to Hindkowans?
2. Pashtun people came somewhere from Kandahar moving around the rural areas of Peshawar. Over time, Hindkowans started moving inwards to their cities as Pashtuns started settling outwards.
3. Most Major cities in NWFP which is Nowshera, Mardan, Peshawar etc. has a Hindkowan core. It was around 1970's with the Pashtunistan issue and USSR, Pashtuns became the majority in Peshawar.
4.Hindkowans were multi-tribal. There was a lot of Jat, Gujjar and Sayyid clans initially but over time, Pashtun hindkowans are increasing.
5. A Mass of Hindu and Sikh Hindkowans fled after partition.
The future
1. Pakistan imposes Urdu on Pashtuns in NWFP to reverse the process of Pashtunization. Urdu and Hindko are different languages but many Urdu speakers can understand Hindko because they both come from Sanskrit and Pashto is an Iranian language. So it's some move Punjabis could do.
2. I forgot about Saraikis, but i'll lump them with South Hindkowans in that region.
3. How many Punjabis and Mohajirs are colonizing NWFP IE moving into that region?
3. Pakistan want's to re-punjabitize NWFP so that Afghanistan can stop bitching over the Durrand line. However what were the historical demographics of Quetta and Balochistan. Is it that Pakistan wants to keep lands because they had Punjabi heritage?
