  • History of akhund tribe?

    Does anyone know where akhund tribe descend from are they found in only pakistan or afghanistan also

  • #2
    I know of tribal members in Afghanistan; not sure about Pakistan.
    Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

    A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

    For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

    The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

      Akhund is not a tribe. It is a religious title given in Islam meaning "chief" in Persian and Arabic.

          it's most definitely a tribe and there are lots and lots of them in nangrahar and ghazni. they are most commonly known as akhundzadas and they may have migrated from ghazni originally.

            Like i said it is not a tribe but rather a religious title given to anyone regardless of tribal origin. Here is my proof;

            @OP: The akhunds don't belong to a specific tribe, ethnic group etc. Anyone in Afghanistan can be an Akhund, for example you can find tajik, and uzbek Akhunds as well.

                There is People's party leader from bajaur, akhundzada chatan. It is definately not a tribe but surname. Like descendants of a nawab are called nawabzada. Similarly shahid afridi is a sahibzada, afridis have told me that sahibzadas among them are not of afridi origin . Similarly you hear of khanzadas. There are many families among pashto speakers who are not of pashtun origin. E.g roghanis of dir say that they have migrated from iran....awans of bannu speak pashto but are not of pashtun origin...same is case with syeds, shiekhs, qureshis etc
