In Karachi claim of taliban's presence is exaggerated. They claim that as for as 5 thousands TTP men operates in karachi while its actually around one or two hundreds. Many criminals, pashtun ones, use the name of taliban for extortion and kidnapping for ransom.....TTP doesnt do bhata business, they only do kidnapping for ransom but not much as they claims are made.
However in settled areas of KPK they are indeed involved in kidnapping for ransoms.....they are directly adjacent to FATA....they kidnap wealthy people and demand rupees in few crores...even mullah omar issued them warning on this.
Why they do this? Contrary to common belief they are not funded by RAW, CIA or some thing like that. Neither they have proper channel of financing like haqqani network which many friends....TTP needs money to operate and they dont have any choice but to kidnap people for ransom.

Another thing, usually Pakistan army make special requests from America to target TTP leaders as America only target al-qaida and those taliban who operates against them....Attack on Wali ur rehman must have been requested by Pak army, to sabotage efforts by Nawaz shareef as wali was the one pushing for peace talks and wanted to work like hafiz gul bahadur and maulvi nazir....

General kayani has made it clear that TTP not india is enemy number 1 of Pakistan.....faujis are sure that TTP is on brink of defeat and peace talks with terrorists means weakness of Pak army and any pact would mean surrender to terrorists demands.

Also Pak army is not in any mood to forgive the "sins" of mehsud tribe....they are punishing mehsud tribe through various ways while giving lot of packages to their rival wazir tribe who are in peace with pakistan......The core fighters , infact most of the members of TTP are mehsud.....mehsud territory is empty, IDPs are not returning or they are not allowed to settle back...about more than 800 military check posts are built in empty mehsud territory......what are the future plans of pak army? They can not have such heavy presence of faujis in area which mehsuds prevented for centuries from being trampled by foriegn boots....Carrot for wazirs and stick for mehsuds would deteriote the situation further.

I am not using the Indian or Israeli card, but they do need funding and in recent months a lot of busts have been made in regards to TTP inside karachi. Just last month one of their key commanders was nabbed there, I forget his name.

TTP goes through ups and downs, but they are chronic.......Fall of mohmand, bajaur, swat, south waziristan has not affected them much...they are as much deadly as they were during times when they were holding those areas....at that time they were spread out, now they are more focused.... They use hit and run tactics, ambushes, suicide bombers and IEDs, they dont rely for such common tactics on wali rehman who was carrying out very high profile attacks like blast on CIA centre in afghanistan...they would still bleed army here and there through general gurella warfare tactics.....army is easily available for them in FATA and KPK to attack. if some how you clear entire FATA from them they would simply operate from afghanistan.....many pakistanis are optimistic that they would be successful eventually like sri lank but that was ethnic one while Taliban is an ideological phenomena, deeply rooted and has supporters throughout country.

With Nawaz Shirif as the new Prime minister and his campaign promise to make peace with the TTP, it was a good way for Pak Army to tell the Americans that a democratically elected government has chosen to make peace deals with the TTP and is the wish of the people to not continue operations in Waziristan. Details reports have revealed that he got attacked in the village 3 km away from miranshah, still that area should be under radar of Pak army. You are right haqqani network with approval of Pak army must have provided him shelter....pakistani analysts are saying that pak army was conducting talks with wali rehman since march and atleast 3 meetings between them had taken place, so they were keeping him close for talks........my gut feeling is that some thing went wrong, some one in ISI, who is against talks with "terrorists" , has tipped off his location to America.....it is a fact that most of the high rank officers and their generals are against peace deals...they have made peace deals in only those cases when they took extremely heavy casaulties...most of them were broken from army side when they felt that they are now in position to attack them again.....generals, colonels etc are in aggressive spirit because they dont have to fight in battle field, while common soldiers are demoralized as they are getting killed by taliban .
