this isnt only about the ten lost tribes but before that there was also a migration of Abraham(a.s)'s children to the east.
    stay tuned
Corrections and additions in my original discussion:
It was not suri, but during lodhi's time the pashtuns got labelled bani-israel in literature called مغزان افغاني.
Then there was تاريخ افغانا by نعمت الله الاحراوي, these sources are dated oldest with bani israel origins.

برير مل i was in a discussion with thise friends saying that the evidence is lacking to make a factual statement. It remains a popular myth because it lacks evidence, DNA as the original assertions, and historic evidence needs support from disparate historic sources for confirmation.
I am not peddling the white aryan theory or blue eyed makdumi ancestry either.

1Beginning with accepted knowledge that yahud native to palestine are the non-lost descendents of bani-israel. That is your test group.

2The pictures were taken during the british raj. There was only the brits in india and close to afghanistan who were providing photos and description, apart from a few like dupree and morgenstierne,a little later. So the brits too were trying to categorise the tribes and their origins (including tracing origins of kafirs of hindukush, the burush of gilgit).

3Indeed, bani israel did not mean yahud, my understanding is the BI were the followers of earlier prophets, hence we see it mentioned in the quran. Some of these BI started to take Issa(as) beyond remit of prophet, and some BI became bacame misguided and refused to accept Mohammed(s) as the last prophet to cap the religious way of islam.

4The lost tribes are claimed many places from the nigerian jews, lemba of africa,
Persian jews, kaifang jews, kurds, chinese jews, even japanese. Just finding jewish artefacts and graves (as in herat) does not mean pashtuns are descendents of BI. Those artefacts tell us that there were jews in thoses places. But the concepts dont connect. Jew migrated to africa, india, china, japan and of course afghsnistan.

5As for the lost BI seeing the light and converting to islam (in their pashtun hat), your counter to my assertion that historically jews have tenaciously kept their identity through history, is like putting cart before the horse, ie giving the BI a pashtun attribute, and the a contradictory assumption that BI were not muslim ( which i addressed part 3)

6To satisfy my curiosity i need a coherence in the fact that the jewish artefacts are indeed of jews who migrated into what was khorasan, and not the lost BI.
There has to be strong evidence for a myth to change from being a narrative of idea to a substantiated fact.

7For me there are many things in common between me and another human being; we are human, sociologically, biologically, and may be we even look alike. It is the few things that can makes us so different. I am a pashtun, from afghanistan, muslim etc these few things make me profoundly different from another human ( as per my example). So for me to look for many similarities in this case is not enough to say pashtun are descendents of the lost 10 BI.
Now, linguists connect Hindi with Norwegian on a small fraction of cognate words (numbers. one example: 5 hindi panch, farsi panj, pashto pinza, latin penta, german pfunf, english (p)five). Now this and the verb object order, few things can make it indo-european or indo-germanish language group. In the same obverse way basque is excluded. So some times a few disimilarites may have a profound affect.

So i have learnt to accept the lost bani israel may be the ancestors of pashtun and bani-isral does not exclusivvely mean yahud, which i had assumed, until i starting thinking of my assumptions in replying to you.

And my convictions remains that 'may be' until better evidence and hence a more cogent argument is presented. I look forward to your future explanation, your conviction is quite compelling.

torkham you noted some good points. I meet a Jew from Herat in DC he spoke Dari and migrated to Israel served there etc.. Hebrews have lived in Kandahar, Swat, Herat and Eurasia. Pashtons migrated in Afghanistan before any Hebrew migrated there, they are the second group first being Nooristani. The percentage of Hebrews in Pashtun's minimal. According to Judian law, if your mother is not a Jew you are not allowed in highest paradise or considered a full Jew. If both your parents are not Jews you are not allowed in major tempels case in point..Herod the King of Israel he had to build a bridge to cross over the tempels as he was not allowed inside. Lesson your either pure Jew or partial Jew considered inferior by Judain law.

Often people claim what they are not linking it to religon due to inferiority complex this is passed oral tradition's and eventually because the gospel truth, far from reality.

On a side note fundemental Jews claim Herods half pagan-Jewish temple was built over Solomons temple in the real estate where the dom of the Rock resides, which is not supported by biblical historians.

        Herod the Great
Herod is an enigmatic figure. 6 A tyrant, a madman, a murderer, a builder of great cities and fortresses, a wily politician, a successful king, a Jew, a half-Jew, a gentile—Herod was all these and more.

RevolutionThroughReason your right, Alexander was Half Macedonian his fathers side Phillip, half Greek his mother from Epirus that is correct Albanian is Illyrian not a slavic race. Albanians also claim Alexander as Albanian why? His mother was from Albanian(Ilyrrian) Epirot-Illyrian origin and there is a continuity between, though he called himself Macedonian and spoke fluent Ilyrrian. I ntoed they are not slavic they are Indo-European race. Everyone knows the story of when Alexander entered Nooristan he saw similar traditions, chairs, utensils cultures, Indo-Europoids in Afghanistan.

..Alexander fled Macedon with his mother, dropping her off with her brother, King Alexander I of Epirus in Dodona, capital of the Molossians. He continued to Illyria, where he sought refuge with the Illyrian King and was treated as a guest, despite having defeated them in battle a few years before.

Alexander is loved by Illyrians (Albanians) who claim him as theirs. Alexander never returned home probably because of his love of bridging Eurasia, he was a visionary man turored by Aristotle, some call him divine.

..Alexander III the Great, the King of Macedonia and conqueror of the Persian Empire is considered one of the greatest military geniuses of all times.

pashto has no more any similarity to hebrew than it does with other languages from what i understand.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

There is a difference between Bani Israel and Jews. The stories that have trickled down generation after generation did not appear from nowhere..,...that my father heard from his father who heard it from his father and so on and so forth....

It is good that this is being researched more.

The above articles point to the very strong similarities traditionally and culturally.

pashto has almost no strong linguistic similarity to any other language, particularly farsi, urdu, Arabic, Turkish....and all of the other supposed "Indo-European" languages...

Its not bs considering that this story has flowed down generations, considering that not only cultural but there are physical features in common with true Middle Eastern people descended from Bani Israel (Sephardic).

                      Customs and even traditional clothes.

Bani Israel is what I heard for a long time. it is what my grandfather told my father that his father told him. When I was young I didnt believe it, but now I know it is the truth because this history is recorded for all tribes.

Our history is ours not for any inferior losers who felt the sting of us crushing their bones (whether is be the Persians, Mongols, Greeks, Indian, Russians, British) to determine out of anger and hatred.

We are the chosen Bani Israel- prophesized by the Hadith of the Black Flags. If you need more, the fact that the whole world has ganged up against all Pashtuns is enough.

                        what kinda crap is this?

Khorssan is the land north and west of Hindukush while pashtun live south and east of Hindukush. Khushal Khan Khattak in one of his poems has mentioned that pashtuns are not from Khorassan.

I find it hard to accept the evidence of this claim. DNA evidence is always being instigated according to papers, like above claim by the british paper, or the earlier claim that israeli academics are to begin research, both supposedly began in 2010. I have not seen any results of these studies, yet claim are abound - with out the DNA results.
It was the foreigners who saw the connection of aquiline features (eagle like), sharp long, hooked noses, sharp cheek bones and chiselled jowls of some mashar back in the days, wearing the pashtun kali, and the english(who else?) saw in their brainwashed ideas the image of bani-israel in looks and dress and pondered over a port and instead of speculating, made a claim that pashtuns indeed are the descendents of the lost 10.
Secondly, during Suri's time, there was a rivalry between mughals and pashtun that lead to malicious labelling, a strawman concept, of Pashtuns as, basically, yahud, that way the moghuls having an upmanship, again ironic as the moghuls were sons of many former hindu rani's, but thats another story.
Then came the nasiri book that continued the myth, you know how it, **** sticks!!! Or shall i say it in more decent words, fantastic "pop" fallacies remain popular and those who are into fantastic pop culture require miracles to be convinced of thier misconception, human nature.

Beside the much anticipated DNA results, since the inception of the research in 2010, their isn't any linguistic similarity, even if there are any common words, it is more like these words migrated through arabic via the spread of Islam, arabic being a semetic language and has commonalities with Hebrew, perhaps not exact words but cognates (words stemming from common root), despite israeli efforts to make hebrew sound different from arabic, which is another political story.

Another step farther, it is well documented that jewish communities across the world (diaspora) have kept their faith and identity against incredible odds of prejudice/ racism/killings, right from ancient history when jews jumped to their deaths of the mountain rather than capture, to the german killings, to their current resilience in propagating their ancestral rights to canaan, they have not converted so easily, and if they have then their religious matrilinial descendence has always been maintained. my question is that if you look at even the anecdotal evidence, it is hard to conceive jews becoming staunch muslims, giving up their culture, language after years in the wilderness. Pashtuns are staunch muslims, their language is pashto with no known semetic connection, even the jewish kepi (little cap) cannot be adequately related to the pashtun kholi in any stretch of imagination.

All a big myth, unless the DNA evidence is produced and with multiple unbiased verification.

Great post. Shah-i-kot aka lynx should get this through his skull.

torkham is right on the money. pashto has no roots with hebrew, which would of been the common link if there were a connection. pashtuns didn't just travel thousands of miles and create a new language out of scratch.

unknownprince, I see that you have still not paid heed to my advice and you're still not in school/college. It shows.

                                1) Why did the Pashtun tribe give up the Jewish faith and become Hindus and Buddhists, unlike ALL the other Jewish tribes that maintained their faith?

                                2) Why is Pashto an eastern Aryan language and not a Semitic language like Hebrew?

                                3) Why is there no genetic similarity between Jews and Pashtuns? The former are primarily from the J-haplogroup (middle-eastern) while Pashtuns are mostly R1a1. Only Ashkenazi converts share some R1a1 genes because they intermarried with northern and eastern European people.
