  • Pashtuns: pragmatic versus the ideological ones

Looking at the diverse Pashtun social structure, two world-views can be discerned as for matters of collective and individual survival and well-being are concerned i.e., where the society is more tribal, there is more pragmatism ---where it is more agrarian and urban/semi-urban, there is more idealism.

    Input of members needed.

This guy always brings ambiguous topics which has nothing to do with Pashtuns. Aah I forgot that he does not know anything about Pashtuns and Pashtuns' society.

I mean where immediate, parochial interests/concerns are considered more important than the greater/nation-wide/broader good.

Simple rural pashtuns unaffected by outside influence seem to be more pragmatic concerned with local and tribal affairs.

The more urban pashtuns who are in contact with the outside world seem more ideologically driven. The ironic thing is that both the Taliban and the secular liberal pashtuns are both concerened with greater goals/ideals. The Taliban want to be part of an idel ummah while the secular/liberals dreaming of a world without religious interference in state matters.
