On my recent trip to AF, got into discussion about pashtun tribes. One guy said that if you are a -zai, like Popalzai, Noorzai, Barakzai, Mohammadzai, Ahmadzai etc then you are a Durrani. If no -zai, then you are Ghilji. Is this so? This categorisation is new to me and I think it false. Contributions please.

No,
this is not true, because the word Ghiljai (spoken like zai) are one of the biggest tribe of afghanistan, and they are also known by the word ghalga, and those non ghilji are known by karlani and some other tribes, they are the major named tribes in afghanistan.
karlani ( most tribes in east from wardak til you reach mehsuds (those who speak pashto) belong to this tribe.
ghargha/ghalga/ghilji are those they have all some common accent, with WOO,they have some kind of common way to speak, among them are also the kuchis.High achievement always takes place in the framework of high expectation.

I have never heard of this categorization before. I can certainly see why itd be easy to think so, considering major Ghilzai tribes like the Hotak, Tarakai, Andar, Kharoti etc do not end in Zai, but the existence of Ahmadzais alone disprove this theoryOriginally posted by torkham View PostOn my recent trip to AF, got into discussion about pashtun tribes.
