The ancient Nooristani and Greeks probably shared genetic resemblance in ancient days, hence their similar culture/traditions.Originally posted by Karachi View Postkalash/nuristani are not greeks, this is just a propaganda spread against them, their dna does not match with present day greeks at all, they are much more similar to their immediate neighbors
Today they are distinct group, closer to Pashtun due to mixing.
Interesting discussion here.

Nuristan, The Hidden Land of Hindu Kush, The Land of Light: Are the Nuristani the direct descendants of Alexander The Greats army?

Archer, Afghan-Pakistani border, early 2nd millennium B.C. Bronze, covered with gold sheet, George Ortiz Collection

Begram

Begram is the name of a village and a place in the Kapisa plain, about 50 km north of Kabul. It is also the name of a site that, just before World War II, delivered a fabulous treasure of art objects that became known worldwide. The treasure was composed of several hundred Greek and Roman objects originating from Alexandria, Egypt, hundreds of ivory objects originating from India, and several dozen Chinese lacquers. This treasure underlines the welcoming nature of ancient Afghanistan and the important role and power of the Kushan sovereigns who controlled the trade routes between the Near and Middle East, China, and India. It is also during this period that Buddhism flourished and was tolerated as one of the empire’s religions. As a result, the trade route also became a way through which pilgrims could travel safely in complete Kushan peace, which I have termed “Pax Kushana.”

^ I am actually shocked with the amount of greek treasures discovered in Pakistan, I was watching a documentary and even to this day Greek coins are found everywhere around the Indus river. Taxila was the seat of Indo Greek kingdom
That's the part of history, which is unfortunately is lost in time, even though it produced one of the greatest artistic fusions of cultures, Greek, Buddhist, Hindu

The kalash are the decendants of the alexander,s army. The nooristanis are dardic race not greek.
Alexander was half macedonian (from moher side) and half greek (from father side).
His soldiers include both greek and macedonians,
A large part of macedonia is still under Greek control.
Macedonians also have Jarga system but with different name.
Pashtuns and macedonains have some similarities but can,nt say we are macedonians.
Need more research.
You will find pashtu words in macedonian language like ,,neshta,,etc.

Support pashto language and greater pukhtoonkhwa.

The theory of Kalashas being descendants of Alexander's army is disputable to say the least. The whole thing is believed to have been started by the Kalash themselves for worldwide attention, obviously it worked (to a degree.)Originally posted by gadoonwal View PostThe kalash are the decendants of the alexander,s army. The nooristanis are dardic race not greek.

Nuristani languages are now considered part of the Iranian branch and not Dardic anymore according to linguists. They could also be descendants of the ancient Aryans like Pashtuns as they are mentioned in the Rigveda as one of the Aryan tribes that went to war with Indians."Revenge is a dish best served cold".

Closer to Greek and European than Paki or India.Originally posted by Midnight_Sun View PostIts called Genetic drift. Genetic studies confirm that any Greek influence is absolutely minimal.
Due to genetic drift, Pashtuns that are unfortunately mixed as a result of their fathers importing slave women are no longer carrying lower cast blood, and are closer to European in culture, language, and genetics.
Good news after all keeping the roots like it was in ancient times.Quod Erat Demonstrandum

Apollyon,
I think you misunderstood me on genetic drift. Genetic drift is caused by usually one or a handful of ancestral founders that have drifted apart genetically-speaking via isolation. That could explain why some families have striking features but lack variation which is uncommon to their neighbors.

If greeks and greek culture existed for a long time in the region than that means that greeks also mixed with the locals there. So some of nuristanis or kalash could indeed be greek remnants.Originally posted by Karachi View Post^ greek culture existed for a long time in the region after Alexander invaded, possibly many things were passed down through generationsجی وا ترا بلوچ ، ذندان بلوچ ، کلو واتنییے

Nah nuristanis are an iranian people just like pashtuns, not to mention they were mentioned in the rigveda as one of the aryan tribes that attacked india. The reason people think they are greek remants is because of their european look. As for the pakol thing, if it really was a greek hat, then why don't the greeks wear it anymore while the afghans still do?Originally posted by M17ArnoBaloch View PostIf greeks and greek culture existed for a long time in the region than that means that greeks also mixed with the locals there. Sad but true, back in the day a lot of Afghan soldiers would take indian women as concubines and would result in a few mixed race children. But in general, Pashtuns show no conection to the indian population as proven by genetics.Originally posted by Apollyon View PostCloser to Greek and European than Paki or India.

PROPAGANDA! LOL.Originally posted by M17ArnoBaloch View PostSomeone explain this.

Who knows if that greek sculpture is recent or ancient, and who knows, it could have been created by the greeks to show what pashtuns wore back in the day."Revenge is a dish best served cold".

It is a greek cap. It's called a kausia. Google it. Also greeks don't wear it anymore is because it's an "ancient" Greek cap. Who wears ancient caps now a day? Everyone wears modern caps today even greeks. It was an ancient hat no one wears it anymore. The same way you could argue that why don't greeks today wear thousands of years old ancient greek clothing instead of pant shirts? It's because modernity relaces all these. By the way I said 'some' of nuristanis could be greek remnants, 'some'. It's possible. And also not all nuristanis look like Europeans, those are cherry picked pictures on web.Originally posted by Kushan Prince View PostNah nuristanis are an iranian people just like pashtuns, not to mention they were mentioned in the rigveda as one of the aryan tribes that attacked india.
