This is so very true that the reason we have Pakistani Pakhtuns is because of Ranjit Singh and his Sikh Army. The British took his inheritance and then modified it to their advantage as they wanted. Otherwise surely all Pakhtuns would have been still part of Afghanistan. All Pakistanis should be grateful to Ranjit Singh and never forget that he laid their foundations.

But please also keep in mind that Sikhs also had many other formidable leaders and commanders from the time of Banda Singh Bahadur onwards. Those previous leaders and commanders paved the way for Sikh rule in Punjab and surrounding regions.

Pashtuns are great freedom fighters which we all know. Ultimately Pashtuns and Sikhs are from same ancient roots and brethren to each other even though we finally ended up being different in many ways as a result of the localities in which we live.

Hari Singh should have been more careful rather than getting into the thick of the battle, but he enjoyed fighting. Afghans did not capture Jamrud in that battle and maybe they did not have the confidence to go for a bigger battle to retake Peshawar.

OK NO.1 Rangit singh did not create or define any borders for the pakistanis because the western region of Pakistan i.e. pukhtunkhwa, FATA, and balouchistan were never conquered by Rangit sing with the exception of peshawer and therefore were never part of his empire. How is it then possible that he "essentially created its borders". The borders were defined with the British and that is another subject but it had nothing to do with any sikh. Read up on the Durrand line!

NO.2 How do we (pashtuns) owe our identity to rangit singh. Am i missing something here or are you in a state of mass confusion.

Sher Shah suri protected all south asians. i.e. indians, pakistanis, punjabis or what ever you call your self from the attacks from the north of genghis khan's descendent's. if it wasnt for him protecting your borders we know what the consequences would have been. so in that case i guess you all owe your identity to us Afghans.

Also since modern pakistan and indian punjab has been part of afghanistan through out history longer than the existance of pakistan it self. i guess you realy do owe your identity to us afghans. be thankful to us, we took care of your ancestors.

you see the truth is i dont harbour the above as my opinion but i've worded it to let you know that dont talk about identity to us, we know who we were and we still know who we are now and we wont allow anyone to play identity games with us because we are well versed in our history.

Ranjit Singh did not do that at all. Sikh faith says all religions are good but no one religion should try to impose itself on others or claim that followers of other faiths are inferior or less favoured by God.

I am a Pashtun and Mr.Singh didnt make me into a Pashtun, even if he never existed id still be one so why should i be thankful.

If your logic that i owe my identity to sikhs, then like AR said "Sher Shah suri protected all south asians. i.e. indians, pakistanis, punjabis or what ever you call your self from the attacks of genghis khan. if it wasnt for him protecting your borders we know the consequences. so in that case i guess you all owe your identity to us Afghans, other wise you would have been part of the mongolian empire. "

Sikhs brag about they had this and that empire but where is that piece of land which is supposed to be of Sikhs? Today's Punjab was never the stronghold of Sikhs. If Sikhs were so brave and chivalrous then why did not they hold to at least today's Punjab in Pakistan?

Simply put, Pakistan was created through the British, their rule of divide and conquer, India would never have split up if they didn't invade.

I think that he was talking about PAKISTANIS pashtuns and not all pashtuns.
all the pashtuns who are proud to be PAKISTANIS, should be thankfull to ranjit because he invaded peshawar, and who says that if he didn't conquered peshawar, british empire could do it ?
                      Sikh army conquered peshawar
and if they didn't conquered it, today it could be part of afghanistan and not pakistan

so if you are proud pakistani pashtun, it's because maharaja ranjit and british conquered peshawar
and before partition it was part of british india

Were's all this rubish that Ranjit Singh created Pakistan lol If Sikhs had the power to create Pakistan then they would create a Kalistan instead.

Im not from Peshawar im from Swat, he didnt conquor Swat. Even if he never got into Peshawar it would still be in Pakistan today as a result of the British an co, so your logic is flawed my friend.

Some people on here, dont even have two brain cells to rub together.
Your argument is flawed, it has no rational element. nor a logical foundation.

The british occupying peshawar had nothing to do with peshawar today being part of pakistan!! what dont you get!! for example the british never ruled north of the malakand division. They lost 3 major battles to the Malakand division yusufzai's. They also never ruled the FATA region. yet today both the autonomous FATA region and the semi autonomous region of the malakand division are part of Pakistan.

I can understand your inability to comprehend such matters because you speak about something without knowledge on the subject matter. The borders were defined based on the durand line treaty and the lies and manipulation of british documents. Most paktuns didnt even know that there was a border separating them for many many years. Thats why all pakhtuns dont recognise this unofficial border.

AR, Genghis Khan died 300 years before Sher Shah.

I think what Ghaznavi meant was that MRS' reign solidified maps of the Indus and immediately beyond. These territories which were earlier unreachable and unconquered were now much closer to a central power in Lahore or Delhi due to MRS repeated incursions. Though he didn't manage to defeat everybody there and nor did he manage to hold on for long to whatever was conquered, his efforts effectively helped define Pakistan's boundaries towards the West.

sorry i meant the descendants of Genghis khan that attacked constantly from the north.

I've already clarified that the west of what is todays khyber pakhtunkhwa, FATA and balouchistan were never conquered nor ruled by ranjit singh and therefore he had no direct nor indirect influence on todays pakistan's westerly borders. even kashmir, sindh were not under his authority.

rangit sing took control of central punjab. Where is punjab located in correlation to modern pakistan. its on the east side. so how does the control of the east define the borders on the west when he had no control there.

take out punjab out of pakistan, what do you have left? The majority of land and population still remains. How then does this little piece of land define the rest of the borders. How do pakhtuns in pakistan, balouchs, sindhis, kashmiris owe their identity to him. Where is the logic in that.

The only thing i give credit to ranjit singh in this debate is his efforts made it possible for the british to become masters of punjab.

Ranjit Singh layed the groundwork for the expansion of the British Raj up to the Durand. The British inherited the Sikh hold on Peshawar and extended it to the other parts of Pakistan. Hes up there with Iqbal, and Jinnah, and that Chaudry fellow who wrote that pamphlet
