  • afghan pashtun dna to be posted soon

one of my colleagues has been working on analyzing 189 samples of afghan pashtun dna, apparently he has found something interesting he is telling me and he will post results very soon, once they are posted, i will post them here

What is this Afghan Pashtun? Is there any other theory in offing connecting Pashtuns to Jews? Is it some sinister MQM project?

Anyhow, what about Altaf Hussain blamed by Mirza?

Karachi, here is an authentic study of Pashtuns of Afghanistan available on ScienceDirect. What the study establishes is that, R1a1 occurs in rather greater frequency in Afghan Pashtuns....So the Israelite theory is even more substantially repudaited in the case of Afghanistan Pashtuns.

Here is a viewable copy of the research.

The study cited above is the most recent (published 2011). There are two astonishing results from the study i.e.,

        • the north population (non-Pashtuns) and south population (Pashtuns) are genetically distinct with the northern group exihibiting more genetic diversity than the southern group. The authors ascribe the higher diversity to the impact of Silk route which facilitated population interaction. The southern population (Pashtuns) were relatively isolated and so have less gene diversity. Furthermore, the authors attribute gene segregation between the two population to the role of Hindukush which formed a barrier to gene flow between north and south populations. The authors even propose assiging different population ids to the two population based on the genetic differences between the two.
        • another interesting result is the degree to which contributions have been made to the two population by other genetically similar populations. According to authors, population of the northern Afghanistan is genetically more close to South Central Asian population compared to the southern population, which is genetically more close to two populations i.e., Lipezkaja and Penzenskaja in Southwest Russia. According to authors, Southwestern Russian population has made 94.4% contribution to Southern Population whereas to the northern population, it has made some 62% contribution (26% of the northern pop gene pool comes from South Central Asia).

the results were surprising to say the least. results have shown that pashtuns are most closely related to the bushmen of africa.
There are people today who think that admitting God’s absolute greatness decreases the value and importance of humans in the creation, as if God and mankind are rivals competing in greatness and power. Meanwhile I feel that whenever our perception of God’s greatness increases, with it we become greater, because we are the creation of a great God.

yeah those are the same 189 samples my collegue is also making studies on, he is yet to publish his results and full report, i am still waiting, but i am surprised with results you have posted, espeically the southern population results which are pashtuns. does that mean pashtuns are much more related to russians? that is surprising indeed!

I have got the paper...and other DNA studies done on Pashtuns (3 so far) as well. The DNA studies can resolve the controversy about Pashtun origin once for all and give them a sense of a more consolidated and clear identity. One thing, that this study talks about haplotypes (not haplogroups), so the results should not be interpreted more hastly (although the authors have talked somewhat more conclusively).

I wish more DNA studies are undertaken.

If someone is interested, she/he can get the papers from me.

what about the theory that we are from the tribes of bani israel.

So the souternern pashtun are close to the nordics (russian) and the nortern pashtun are close to the south population..... hmm sounds very Logical, NOT

Only some tribes have conection but not all pashtuns are bani israel, we pashtun are diferce group we are not like Europeans or Chinese peopel who have a homogenous population.

Sorry friends. I made an almost fatal mistake i.e., both populations studied are Pashtuns; one to the north of Hindukush of which a sample of 44 unrelated Pashtun males was studied and the other to the south of Hindukush in which the DNA profiles of 145 urelated Pashtun males were considered. The subjects of the experiment also provided geneological information of at least two generations. Below is the related excerpt from the paper.

"Sample collection: Blood samples were collected with informed consent from 189 unrelated Pathan males from Afghanistan. Donors provided geneological information for at least two previous generations".

As I mentioned earlier, the study indicated statistically significant difference between the genitic data of the two populations (Pashtuns north of Hindukush versus Pashtuns south of Hindukush), which made the researchers suggest maintaining independent gene databases for the two Pashtuns. The authors argue Hindukush posed a barrier to the gene flow between the two Pashtun populations and that is the reason for the difference.

According to the study (Table 4), 3.4% of the northern Pashtuns genetically match population of Anatolia (Greece and Turkey), 7.2% that of East Asia (Korea, Malaysia, Philipinnes, Taiwan, and Vietnam), 26.3% that of South Central Asia (Bangladesh, Bhuttan, Nepal, Newar, Kathmando, and Punjab) and 63.1% that of Southwest Russia (Lipzeskaja and Penzenskaja regions).

Pashtuns south of Hindukush on the other hand have genetic match with Anatolian population (Greece, Turkey) by a percentage of 3.6% and with Southwest Russia (Lipzenkaja and Penzenskaja regions) by a percentage of 96.4% (Table 4). The researchers determined this based on Correspondence Analysis(CA), NJ, and Admixture Analysis.

One can clearly see the relatively greater variation in the gene pool of Pashtuns north of Hindukush. The reason for the variation may be the intermarriages of Pashtuns in the north with other groups in the area due to the Hindukush impeding such relations between north and south.

Another study the results of which have been submitted (in May 2011) to the international organization for Y-STR database but not yet published has been undertaken by an Afghan, Niaz Mohammad of National Center of Molecular Biology (CEMB), Lahore. Niaz has considered a sample of 125 Pashtuns and has not made a distinction between Pashtuns north or south of HK.

I intend to contact him to know the details of his conclusions.
