That's what I figured. However, do you have any sources for the atrocities that Ranjit committed? The Sikhs somehow glorify Ranjit bhai and they argue that many Pashtuns, specifically Afridis joined Ranjit Singh against the Pashtuns. How true is this? He was arguing that, and I wonder if he was just making it up on the spot. I argued that if Pashtuns joined Ranjit Singhs army, it was probably for economical incentives. In a similar fashion, many Pashtuns have joined NATO as well.

In our lakki marwat , a river flows called gambila. Magority of marwat population used to live on either sides of its banks. It has ruins on its banks ,we call them kuri. In kuri people some times discover number of skeletons without graves and from their position in the ground it is concluded that they were not buried, they were just killed in mass numbers. I checked books about history of marwats in lakki library, it was mentioned that marwats were semi-nomad people in abdali era. Abdali made all pashtun tribes to pay tax, marwats did not used to pay tax. When abdali soldiers used to come to lakki to collect tax then many would flee to mountains along with their cattle while rest would prefer to fight kabuli soldiers. Powerful abdali soldiers would easily massacre small number of marwats.

Ahmad Shah invaded and Looted India the same way Sikhs invaded and looted Pakhtunkhwa. Invaders are Invaders. I oppose all forms of Imperialism!

However, Ahmad Shah was following protocol of any other king would do.

Admin, Barakzai - I think we discussed out these claims and counter claims about Ahmed Shah in a previous thread. However since we have a new one here, I thought I'd share some of my views about the issue. I would request you to access the link here to get an idea of the massacres (alleged maybe) carried out against the Sikhs. Wadda Ghalughara - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I must add that I am not a big fan of Wiki myself but it does give you a brief (if one sided) overview of things.

Now here's my take - I do not for a moment doubt that mass civilian casualties would have happened when Abdali drove into the Punjab plains. And since Sikhs were newly organized militarily they would have faced the brunt of it. But this wasn't out of place by any standards of warfare. Massacres did happen and so did the destruction of religious places. Religious places were often seen as symbols of defiance and opposition and had to be neutralized in order to ensure control over the population and to proclaim authority or to simply take vengeance for previous acts. The destruction of the Babri Masjid and the counter acts of burning and vandalization of a few Hindu temples and Gurudwaras in Pakistan can be seen in a similar sight. This wasnt really out of place during those times.

And its also true that one would want to look at things the way you want to. The Sikhs have a tradition of using past events as a source of inspiration or simply to harden the masses in readiness for a future conflict. One sometimes has to increase the odds stacked against you to glorify the sacrifice. And its quite possible that some of the events must have been exaggerated. I simply do not see the Sikh historians or any source for that matter, to be beyond exaggeration. Even now a lot of pro-Khalistan websites overdo the police brutality in Punjab during the KPS Gill era of the 80's. This goes on. And I believe I can say the same about Afghan historians.

Its quite simply that one side downplays Abdalis massacres and overdoes Ranjeet Singh's. The other side does the vice-versa.
