  • Manzarehs history posts: The Rohtas Fort

As being in my final year of Architecture this is something that iv chosen to study in one of my modules, i actually visited this place while doing my report. Im a big fan of history aswel so i thought id share it here, its really interesting stuff politically, religiously, culturely, design of the place things that were happening at the time.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohtas,_Pakistan

p.s. ignore the part were it talks about the gates and someone called 'Khwas Khan' i dont think anyone would ever be called that!! specially when the fort was built by a Pashtun emporer.

I missed this when first posted.
    Great idea, Manzareh.

I too visited Rohtas but before the declaration as a World Heritage site.

In fact there was NO ONE around- no tourists went there.
I made a special trip by car from Lahore.
It was really worth the effort.

I read the wikipedia article and was interested in the sunflower motif
& the Lilly one which was used in the tombs of Jehangir and Nur Jahan
    in Lahore later.

The article was I thought wrong though in implying that Jehangir died in Lahore.
He died in 1629 I remember offhand, returning from Kashmir but nowhere near al the way back to Lahore, was my impression.

I can't remember exactly WHY I was so intent on seeing Rohtas for myself.
But I guess I'm a Sher too so it's family history...!
    Just joking.

It was probably because the spectacular look of the
Fort. For example, this pic from the article
