  • Thoughts on Paktia

My family has been living in Kabul for more than 50 years now, but historically we are from Paktia. Anytime I ask them about the history of Paktia or the history of my family living there they always just laugh and give me brief answers or they dont tell me anything. I dont know why. I have visted there and read some things. But what are your thoughts on Paktia? and if you have any history on where they came from i would appreciate it.

What do you want to know, What part of Paktia are they from? what quom?
some scholars are claiming that the word pashtu has been stemmed from pashtia/paktya. Paktya used to include khost and paktika. Attan is very popular in this area.
I dont know why your family laughs, what do they say. There has been a few trouble makers from paktya. Many leaders of the saur revolution were from Paktya including Najib Ahmedzai, The haqqanis are also from paktya.

They are not open to talking about Paktia history. Najibullah Ahmadzai is my favorite president.

No way, for me he is the best, I like Daud khan also. It would take too much time for me to brainstorm all the reasons why hes my favorite pres.

Under daud, the country started its chaotic turn and under najib that turn became a catastrophy and the country was destroyed.

Afghanistan havent had any really good leaders because of competing tribal interests. The pashtuns have only been united once under ahmed shaw durrani because he was successfull in turning those competeing interests into a unifying force to conquer persia and india.

Enlighten me, what is it that you like about those two or any leaders of the past 35 years. communism can never succeed in a pushtun society, The culture is not compatible with it.

I have never visited Paktya yet and would like to know about the status of Pashtunwali there and the political situation of Paktya tribes. Anyone can provide with reliable information?
