  • Pashtun with a Israelite past?

    Dear friends,

I write to you from Israel and I hear rumors that we might be brothers. I have read much material, heard interviews from witnesses, Jews who used to live in Afgahnistan that the Pashtun seem to share many laws and ways that we Jews hold.

I hear that you keep the Sabbath (on Saturday), that you do circumcision on the eighth day and that you will not eat meat slaughtered by Muslims, but you will eat meat slaughtered by yourselves or Jews in accordance with the law of Moses. In addition I understand you even have fringes on the four corners of your garments and will swear in the name of Moses when accused of a crime.

It seems if this is true that we are brothers, and you were exiled from Israel 2600 years ago by the evil king Sancherev.

Please let me know if there is any validity to these rumors.

    Thank you

I find it highly unlikely because the majority of pakhtuns have been found with genetics from all over, turks, arabs, greeks and slavic people. I did a genographics study test myself and it was linked with turks.

Although I read an article on an Afridi(pakhtun tribe) family living in India and they were strongly linked to jews. So a few may have been.

what you show there, is strikingly similar to what we Jews wear. Are there specifically tied twisted threads on each corner of the garment?

Is it also true that you are careful not to cut the corners of your head and as I can see you do not shave your breads.

that would seem to have serious implications, this is a distinctive Jewish/Israelite practice from ancient times until today.

corners are not shaved because men let their beard grow, and yes there are instances where kids got those sidelocks.

many do shave heads especially elderly and young.
for instance in my city long hair is deemed not suitable for men,but in waziristan people have long hair and in there its a different story.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

This has been discussed here a few times. Me and GOE recently discussed it a bit in this thread below (Are Orakzais Persians?) on pages 2 and 3. I myself believe in an Israelite origin.

As for keeping the Sabbath, Pashtuns of the Shinwari tribe among others are particularly known to light candles. And the other things you mentioned are done as well by various tribes. One point I would like to make you aware of is that nearly all of the members of this forum have been born/raised up in the West and are not very familiar with the traditions and practices of tribal Pashtuns in lone mountain villages. The issue of the lost Israelite tribes is one that was meant to be an ambiguous mystery until they are reunited by the Mahdi (AS). With that said, simply asking these Westernized Pashtuns their feelings on a forum will not offer a miraculous answer to the dilemma that has perplexed the most learned for thousands of years. I do welcome you again though and I am looking forward to your personal views, and contribution.

we are not jewsih if that what you are implying
i think Moses(pbuh) was not jewish since the word jewish came into existance much later.
but there are many info on that we are from bani-israel which has nothing to do with jews and the law of Moses(pbuh) is considered sacred by Muslims and upheld.

Yes I heard that the waziri keep the biblical laws of Nazir (wazir might be a corruption of the word) the laws of the nazir forbid even cutting any hair on the head. But do the wazir drink win?

i wasnt born or raised in the West
i was born in afghanistan and even in the west we are living with the same traditions.
ive never heard of shinwaris lighting candles but it can be true
th emost striking resemblence is that pashtuns look like the way christians portray Jesus and Moses (pbut).

Most pashtuns are trying to avoid this discussion because they are pumped with being Arian and because of the way Israel has been treating innocen tpalestinians but this has nothing to do with Israel but our own history and we are muslims alhamdulilah and dont support attrocities done by Israel.

If this theory comes out to be true which i think is,than we were muslims for thousands of years.

I am simply on a fact finding mission, from what i have heard so far on this forum, has left me with chills down my spin. Kids running around with sidlocks, men with ritual fringes very similar to ours and if you westernized pashtuni know about these traditions, it means that it is most likely very strongly held onto. You know according to our tradition, we are in the process of redemption or the "first budding of the redemption" that means it is time to start looking and searching for the rest of our people.
