For what it is, he did make peace with punjabi army only to get killed by a drone few days later. They are/been US and Pakistani politician/Army generals who are/were bigger terrorist then Nek but no one is as quick to call the, names.

I have a soft corner for the guy.
He's the quintessential charming bandit type.
GYE, he was mentioned a bit earlier on a thread, but it's good to resurrect this famous personage.

I didn't realize it was only a few days after that PBS Frontline footage which showed the reconciliation that he was killed by a drone.

Perhaps he's in hiding somewhere, just letting the world think so.
He may return like the Hidden Imam, when needed most by his people...

Seriously, though, was he the target of one of those tracking devices planted by some staff member in the General's retinue who was secretly working for nefarious agencies?

^^^^i think it was Mossad who planted the device. Simce he doesn't like it when Muslims makes peace. Mossad is a demagogue who loves to exploit issues and to point fingers so he could say how bad Muslims are.

You could say Nek made peace after several battles. Mossad will say he shook hands and drank chai with Shia punjabi general.

Yes, and how he is the center of everyone's attention.
They all gaze admiringly at him.
He looks sure and confident but not brazen or unpleasant.
                  [Like our friend Mossad!]

This was your first avatar, GYE. Did someone chase you until you changed it to a more neutral national hero - I assume it's that first Afghan astronaut?
                  Why did you pick him?

this guy is standing tall because the tribal elders probably chose him as their speaker and representative.

i change my avatar constantly he had his time and now yes he is the first afghan astronaut and i think the fourth muslim astronaut.
his name is Abdul Ahad momand.

About avatars: good, that's educational to have a revolving slide show of various important Afghans.
                      A pashtun then? I hadn't known that.

Question: where did he go in space ?

                          To a Russian space station?
                          Hmm
Yes-- Ironic too that he would become a REFUGEE?
                          How's that??
Was he astronauting in the Soviet occupation era and had to take off when Communists overthrown?
                          Where is he now?
                          This is quite interesting.
He could suffer from the same
Abandoned Celebrity Syndrome as Alireza Pahlavi
Maybe PF should send him a card to cheer him up before anything untoward occurs ...

Bro, are you saying that the Communist regime's policies were not felt by the majority of the population? That most just went on with their lives, unaware of who held the reins of power in Kabul?
What about from 1978 on with Taraki - wasn't that a big change, even before the Soviets imposed their ways and puppet Karmal?
All the way to the end of Najib in '96 - that was pretty long altogether.
Of course those really dedicated Marxist-Leninists were in a tiny fraction of the population.
One wonders if even THEY believed in what they were preaching. Or it was just an intellectual fad...Or there were attractive bonuses like bottles of vodka offered for going along with the Sovs...
I am striving to get a better awareness of that time compared with others, and in retrospect as the dust falls into place and one can see better what was going on from the distance of years.
