You said the truth. We are Muslim Pashtuns. Islam is most important. We must all unite and stand together.

I believe the single most important reason why we are so divided is because of tribes.

We are divided into nearly 500 tribes(including subtribes) and each tribe takes this very serious.


A Yusufzai is willing to favor his Yusufzai over a Afridi.
An Afridi will favor his Afridi over a Alokozai.


We need to unify, Use tribalism just as a form if you are Pashtun or not. It is apparent that we take it a little to easy.



Hamid Karzai belong to the Popalzai tribe of Kandahar. Every Popalzai is very happy, yet Abdali,sadozai,barakzai is unhappy cause he is popalzai.


Shouldn't we all be happy cause he is Pashtun most important Muslim?


Do not deny that tribal worshipping exists, if you think so, you have not visited Pak-Afg border, where if you are not Achakzai or Noorzai, you get a hard time.


The british has divided us very badly and if we unify we can be successful. If someone asks you who you are,simply say I am Pashtun. No need for this ' I am yusufzai' this needs to stop.

This is a very important issue however as I said in another thread , tribes are just flowers of one tree. All Pashtuns are one but divided in different colours of flowers in the form of tribes. But if you just say I am Pashtun , thats enough because you identify yourself with the whole, the tree, not the part, the flower.

Tribes are like different names of the children of the same father. We cant call them sons but give them a name. Seventy million Pashtuns have naturally sub divisions in the form of tribes or khels but all these are symbolic. The essence is being Pashtun.

Tribes may be taken very lightly and no preference may be given to one or another tribe. We all belong to one blood and specially in foreign countries we may introduce ourselves just Pashtuns.

Tribes have another benifit that it make you more Pashtun once you feel belonging to a tribe.

No i am not favouring disunity, if an afridi or wazir is very proud of himself then he has reasons for it, i instead of going into inferiority complex, appreciate their deeds.
Swat has fractured or diminished tribalism, when small number of talibans came and bullied them, not a single lashkar was raised to resist them due to absense of tribal system.

Tribes have divided us badly. If it was a good thing. All the ethnic groups would have kept theirs.

I do not think islam can unite Pashtuns as we wish it would, we are already witnessing, Pashtun salafis vs Sufis, Salafis vs Shia all over Pashtunkhwa, Do not deceive us with your plans of Arabisation

Islam was tired durng soviet era and it failed to unite the people

A clear Pashtun Nationalist Unity ideology needs to be adapted without Arab nor Muslim Nor Punjabi Nor European Influence added.

I am against tribal divisions too, but i favour tribes in where you can know one another, like my family are of amarkhel of ghiljai paternally and i am proud to say that but i dont think that my tribe is any better than others or any worse. Like others have said you are muslim FIRST and pakhtuns second. There is a quranic verse where it mentions tribes..could someone please find it if you know what im talking about?
