My wife threw my older ones out and the ones I picked up in Karachi last year on Tariq Road were a stylised version that look a bit disco to me.
I get mine from Gizri. There's a place called Mardan Sandal House or something. They make their sandals themselves in the traditional style. A pair my size goes for 1500 but you can always bargain. The Peshawari sandals that you get from the stores are a very Pakistani/modern take on the original concept and they kill the whole purpose of wearing something that means more to you than just something covering your feet.
I always wear them with kameez partug.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".
I am so used to seeing them all around Peshawar, sold so many places, that it's impossible to imagine men in that region wearing - boots?? What kind do they mean?
Re the sandals, I think they are the most comfortable shoe for everyone. I wear my own type here even in cold weather, because sandals are so convenient and easy when one takes them off going inside the house.
The air circulation is important for feet health, too. That's a problem with other types of shoes: too restricted circulation of blood, too.
Obviously ! I'm saying it is a very sensible custom.
Plus, leather is so much more healthy and durable as the article says than PLASTIC sandals, which are worn especially by women, throughout the Middle East.
Plastic has so many chemicals. Especially the cheap types. So no one should wear those for many hours.
Whereas these leather ones are an exceedingly healthy choice in addition to being so much a trademark of Pashtun classical footwear style.
Remember how people trample down the back strap and just wear like that around?

We once had a pair made for a friend here, but the size was wrong, much too small for my friend, so I still have them, here in California. If anyone is interested in them, I'd be happy to send them, but the person would have to have small feet!
That's kind of you to offer everybody
What size approx are the sandals?
I am slightly confused with your question. The size of the sandals?
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.
A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai
For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."
The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!
I think because I just tried them on, they would be like a size 8 1/2 (U.S. women's size) maybe. I do not think the bottom is leather, but rather rubber soles, recycled ? tires? But the uppers are leather as far as I can see and smell. Should I take a picture of them and post it?
traditionally pashtuns will wear shoes like that?
so now pashtun tradition depends on the type of shoes one wears? shoes are shoes. wear what you feel comfortable in. nothing is worth giving up a basic freedom like that over. NOTHING.
