  • “Khani “ system

Does anyone here know what the “Khani” system is all about? I mean how does it work, and which areas have this way of life in place?

I don’t know much about it at all and have never heard of it from my elders as we don’t have it in our areas.

What do you mean by "Khani system?" Khans are basically feudal landlords among Pashtuns, similar to Indic Chaudhry's. Malik, Arbab, and Khan are names for "lords" in pashtun society. I don't know the exact differences but Maliks are more common in FATA while Khans are more common in KPK. Arbabs are only found in Peshawar district. I don't know the situation in Afghanistan and North Balochistan.

Do Khan Khel sections of tribes hold any real power over other sections of the tribe or clan? Do they hold power like other influential people like “Chaudhrys”, and those types?

Lots of illegal power(including money, threats etc.)
I have heard that many of them were very obedient to the British during the time of our popular backstabbings(for each other of course)...
