Rising horses is a custom among Pashtuns. Especially the koochi tribes of the South East. We even have horse riding games and festivals. But due to war and poverty most people can't afford to have horses anymore.

I do know that the taliban in like waziristan ride them cuz there is one super hilarious picture of hakimullah in his later years when he was a fat fuc riding a horse and it seems so sad cuz you can almost see the pain in the horses eyes from the weight.
But other than that i dont think its as big of a thing anymore. Maybe it is still a practice in many areas but idk.

Horses are expensive to keep and horses are not the primary mode transportation these days so it make little sense to keep horses. My uncle had a few horses used for Buzkashi but gave them away when he moved abroad as he couldnt take care of them.

Nowadys only Kochis and some rural Pashtuns keep horses. The time of the horses is long gone.
