ANY Movie/ Tv shows in Pashto

I hope you are all well.

I was wondering if any of you guys or gals could help me out a little. I am a Pashtun (of course) but I am born and raised in the UK. I spent most of my life watching western television etc and I thought I should get more in touch with my roots. I don't really like music (and i know thats a big thing in our culture) so I thought I could start watching Pashto TV instead. The problem is I really can not stand some of the S**t Pashto stuff my mom and dad watch, you know the movies with Jahangir or what ever his name is and his horrible moustache. I recently watch the movie Janaan (I assume most people here hate that movie) but it portrayed our people in good light, so it wasn't that bad. I was hoping you guys could by suggesting something similar or even a tv drama. Please note I can only speak english and Pashto and would need something with subtitles if its going to have Urdu or any other language.


I hope this is not a big request.

Well you should look into Ismail Shahid's telemovies(or dramas as they call them for some reason). Also old school pashto movies like topak zama qanoon and adam khan dukhaney(badar munir was the jehangir lala of his time except people liked him more and his movies didnt suck as bad). Also if you wanna check out music check out the true underground ****, the local rabab mangay mehfil videos they have or bandar videos, and if there is a pashto musician i can recommend that is pretty good it is this guy called Shahadat Tanai and hes from khost but he plays some good ****. But yeah you might not like any of the other stuff i mentioned but if anything youll love Ismail Shahid's stuff.

I'll second Meem zar ma starring Ismail Shahid. It is a classic.

In terms of movies, old movies like Orbal, Adam Khan durkhanai etc.

There are a few Pashto movies like from Afghanistan like "De Konday zoi", "Naway" which are good.

You can find them on Youtube.

There is also a Turkish serial dubbed in Pashto called "De darai morchal".

This is probably the most famous Pashto movie in Afghanistan. Story is about an innocent young Pashtun man who goes to Kabul to taste the city life.

I wouldn't bother watching any new rubbish. All the films and dramas in Pashto are so ridiculous I haven't got words to describe them, especially all this "gandageer" crap with people like ugly Jahangir Khan and God knows who else. It will actually make you cringe.

Two dramas you must watch. One is called "Khanadaan", the other I'm not sure, but may be called "Staray maashe". Fantastic dramas and you won't get embarrassed sitting in front of your tele. Really beautiful pieces both of them.

Other than some old Pashto black and white films just about are watchable at a push.
