  • What religion did Pashtuns practise before Islam?

It's said that in ancient Bactria, northern half Afghanistan, southern half Tajikistan, is where Zoroastrianism was found, thus Tajik's ancestors before Islam were Zoroastrianist. After Cyrus the Great of Persia conquered and annexed Bactria into the Achaemenian Empire, the Zoroastrian religion spread westward as far as Babylon and Israel.

But what about Pashtuns, what religion did ancient Pashtuns practize prior to Islamic expansion?

      Probably Buddhism, Zoroastrianism and Hinduism.

It depends on what era of history. Obviously what Pashtuns or their predecessors were doing in 500 BC wasnt the same as what they were doing a 1000 years later in 500 CE etc

Probably Budhism and some sort of paganism before Buddhism. Buddhist temples have been found in Logar, Swat and many other areas where Pashtuns live but no Hindu temples as far as I know.
I also havent seen any Zoroastrian temples south of Hindukush.
