Oh it's a title, I thought you might have been talking about that Indian caste that claims Arab ancestry. I guess that puts them in the same boat as the kasabgaran, malyaran, jolagan, etc. then? I don't see why they wouldn't belong to a Pashtun tribe.Originally posted by AfghanfootballA Pashtun who has the title of syed. For example there is an Afghan football player who's name is Syed Maqsood Hashimi. Though lots of people give their kids the name Syed when they are not real Syeds.
I am partly a Syed from Kunar.

There are many kinds of Syeds among Pashtuns. Some Syeds have complete written genealogy or shajra nasab which leads to the prophet Muhamamd or Hazrat Ali or some other famous Arab Muslims. These Syeds are only culturally and linguistically Pashtuns but not genetically.
Other Syeds are just because of their piety or Islamic learning or Sufism or spiritualism and other reasons. These are also called Miagan or Mullan and they are genetically Pashtuns but have a religious or spiritual distinction. In some cases they have a khel instead of a tribe like Miakhel, Mullakhel etc.

This is an interesting question my mums family are syeds (Kakakhel). Though they are the type described below, they have an actual family tree which leads to the bloodline of Prophet muhammad (pbuh) aswell as their own website and are one of the most well known Pashtun syeds or so I am told. Kakasahib's (who was the spiritual leader of the Kakakhel's aswell as being one of the most well known islamic scholars amongst Pashtuns) son was killed by Kushal Khan Khattack's son. When he was arrested by the mughals he wrote this Poem in prison: " za pa band da Aurangzeb na yam chey ba khlaas sham
za band karhey sheikh rehamkar ziarhee-kaka yam". Ziarhee kaka was another name for Kakasahib.

Kakakhels are pure blood Pashtuns. They are not at all Arabs. Actually some families because of inferiority or superiority complexes and as Islam was en vogue, so for better prestige invented and fabricated family trees for more importance and attention in Pashtun societies. The same even happened of tracing all Pashtun tribes to Qais Abdul Rashid for credibility that Pashtuns are a better race being Jews or Arabs.Originally posted by Dawar Faudzi View PostThis is an interesting question my mums family are syeds (Kakakhel). I love Kakakhel Pashtuns , as their contribution to Pashto language is enormous.

Do you know the name of the guy who started the whole "Jewish descent theory" nonsense? I heard that he started it to make it seem like Pashtuns belonged to a holier lineage than the Mughals did as a form of bragging rights.Originally posted by Badlun View PostKakakhels are pure blood Pashtuns. The Sad''at of Kunarh & Laghman originate from Syria , this has actually been confirmed. Whether they're actually Sayeds or not, is up for debate but they're immigrated to Afghanistan sometime ago.

I would love to know how and why these people left Syria for the mountains of Kunar? I dont see any attraction that some one will leave Syria for Afghanistan.Originally posted by Brown Skinned Savage View PostThe Sad''at of Kunarh & Laghman originate from Syria , this has actually been confirmed. Correct, but the Sad'at started living in Kunarh long before Sayed Mahmud Pacha. I'm told they came to the region during the Mughal period But I can't confirm this so this could be apocryphal.

Pretty sure most South Asian "Syed" are the descendants of upper class Hindu converts who still wanted to maintain some prestige in society after they left the caste system.
Also,
The Islamic invasion in the 7th century CE left an immense cultural impact on the region, with reports of Arabs settling in Afghanistan and mixing with the local population [49]. However the genetic signal of this expansion is not clearly evident: some Middle Eastern lineages such as E1b1b1-M35 are present in Afghanistan, but the most prevalent lineage among Arabs (J1-M267) was only found in one Afghan subject. In addition, the three Afghans that identified their ethnicity as Arab, had lineages autochthonous to India.
Afghanistan has held a strategic position throughout history. It has been inhabited since the Paleolithic and later became a crossroad for expanding civilizations and empires. Afghanistan's location, history, and diverse ethnic groups present a unique opportunity to explore how nations and ethnic groups emerged, and how major cultural evolutions and technological developments in human history have influenced modern population structures. In this study we have analyzed, for the first time, the four major ethnic groups in present-day Afghanistan: Hazara, Pashtun, Tajik, and Uzbek, using 52 binary markers and 19 short tandem repeats on the non-recombinant segment of the Y-chromosome. A total of 204 Afghan samples were investigated along with more than 8,500 samples from surrounding populations important to Afghanistan's history through migrations and conquests, including Iranians, Greeks, Indians, Middle Easterners, East Europeans, and East Asians. Our results suggest that all current Afghans largely share a heritage derived from a common unstructured ancestral population that could have emerged during the Neolithic revolution and the formation of the first farming communities. Our results also indicate that inter-Afghan differentiation started during the Bronze Age, probably driven by the formation of the first civilizations in the region. Later migrations and invasions into the region have been assimilated differentially among the ethnic groups, increasing inter-population genetic differences, and giving the Afghans a unique genetic diversity in Central Asia.Originally posted by Elite PakhtunI still remember those pieces of garbage asking US presidents, when they visit, stuff like "why can't we (India) teach them (Pakistan) a lesson?".
