Kunar1990, We are all glad that you safely returned. You were indeed missed by the community.

I am also looking forward to you sharing your experience in Afghanistan along with some pictures of Kunnar if possible.

Mahzala: I'm sure I know why you are excited.
Even Adobe Photoshop can't change me.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

      -Ferishta, 1560–1620

Thanks for starting this thread and remembering me.

I was in Afg for 25 days, didn't witnessed much but met and spent time with my relatives which was the reason we decided to spent our holiday in Afg.

I was almost only in Kabul - in a place called Ahmad shah babas Mena - better known as Arzan qimat. Before our visit to kabul I was thinking that farsi must be the dominating language in kabul - it possible is, but in Arzan qimat there is only pashto and even the few farsiwans living there speak pashto. The whole arzan qimat is filled with pashtuns from all pashtun provinces, so I met people from Paktia, kunar, Laghman, Logar and shinwari... Quite nice. The people told me Arzan qimat is growing very fast and people are coming to kabul everyday. Which is quite right, everywhere in arzan qimat buildings and roads were being build. Once it was called "dashta" in kabul... No one wanted to live here, now normal people cannot afford to buy a house or even some land... We spent around 20000 usd on our house when it was build 6 years ago, today its 150000 usd worth.

From what I have seen things are moving in Kabul - slowly but Reconstruction is going on in kabul and people are moving everyday to kabul - the population has grown up to nearly 6 million, I guess must of them must be pashtuns since peace is not good in many pashto dominated provinces...

I will write about Taliban and amarican and what the people thing of them later...

            Thanks Kunarh malgarya

I wish yiu could tell me something about Kunarh too as my roots are from this area.

Will you also tell us in which language the sign boards are written in Arzan qimat an dother areas of Kabul.

Have you ever visited a government office or school or university? Which language they use for writing petitions, applications , notifications and news letters

Did you find Pashto in print and electronic media

Did you see that Afghan forces, police etc to be in full control of the situation or they depend on NATO fully?

What about the cleanliness of the streets the areas you visited?

Did you go out side Kabul

            sorry for so many questions

From what I experienced it varies alot especially the private shop sign boards, but the important government sign boards are both in pashto and farsi.

I will tell you what I experienced...

Almost all the people I listened to don't want the Taliban back! They are pretty negative about them and says they are not Muslims. I heard some people say they behead people and its not allowed in Islam to halal humans... At the same time they don't want Americans either but they know that this government will collapse if the Americans leaves and people would never believe any other government again because the last 30-40 years nothing has worked...

The Americans, when they drive in their big heavy military vesicles the civilian cars stops until they have passed... They always keep a distance to the Americans because they are afraid of a potentiel attack can effect people around them...

Some of the people says the American plan the attacks on themselves... They says the bombs which are exploted on them don't effect their big vesicles but only kills civilians around them... This only for a reason to stay...

Another thing which surprised me is the strategy which Macrystal was talking about... You know the thing which he wanted to take from Iraq to Afghanistan - The strategy of communicating with afghans and winning hearts... didn't see any sort of communication between civilian Afghans and Americans. I was even in a military camp in Ningarhar... My mama is a high ranked police man who have 4-5 bodyguards... One day in Ningarhar he said I should come to this camp to spent the night there because there was aircondition and the roams were cold I could sleep better, so I went there... At night I was outside in the camp with my mamas askar where I saw Americans... Few of them were running and these askar started to yell after them "run", "run Fast and bad words in pashto... One of the askar took his belt of and start to chase one of the soldiers (just for fun) but there was no reaction from the Americans... They did not even communicate with their afghan colleagues - where is the talking macrystal was talking about? The Afghan Askar told me they never talk to us... They are very afraid all the time and never go alone...

Once Pakistan is vanished from the face of the Earth and probably in 2016 we may need to buy a new updated world atlas if you know what I mean haha.

                  Solution to end Taliban.

Bring opportunties, employment and peace and the destruction of the ISI then taliban will fade away back into the books of history.

                  Kind Regards

BTW great to have you back Kunar
