wow, some people in this thread are acting like its crack cocaine.

chill out, I use to take the black / green one regularly - not so much now i don't see it having much effect on me anymore. I hate the green one, only cos it spreads in the mouth and down the throat as its a powder-type paste. The black one is like plasticine so you can mould it into a ball and pop it under the top lip neatly. Gives you a good little tingle and a peaceful little chakkar, that's all.

The people that use it and spit it out like animals are the ones that give naswar a bad name. Just like those bengalis that use paan and spit every 20 seconds. I havent tried paan but im sure its probably quite good.

LOL! nearly every Afghan grandmother took naswar :P they will even admit it to you

My grandmother would smoke so much hookah. Sadly, she also took chars as well. Since she was a village woman, many times she never knew what kind of illnesses she had so taking chars helped her a lot.

She was my maternal grandmother.....so from the non-Pashtun side of the family. But since they are from Pashtun dominated area, they adapted themselves in to Pashtun culture.

I spent every second with her.....of course till she passed away. Grandmothers are the best....bless them all.

                            "Naswar" Vendor in Samarkand, Uzbekistan
Another Dudin photograph taken in the earliest part of the 20th century in Uzbekistan. Seen here is a vendor of "naswar" or a ground up, powdery form of tobacco which is then chewed. Throughout Central Asia, such tobacco products are used, even to this day in spite of the incursion of fine quality cigarettes into the marketplaces. Note the packets of the powdered tobacco product packaged for easy sale in the foreground.

My cousin would literally load almost an entire bag into his mouth in one go and fall asleep with it. I don't know how they manage it, the smell is really bad lol.
