Pashtuns are Hanafis and Tori and some Bangash Pashtuns are also Jafaris. This is in regard to Fiq of ibadat/worship. beliefs wise Pashtuns were mainly of sufi propensity before 1979 but now Wahabi/Salafi influence is very dominant. Although they have not changed their fiqa on a larger scale and still follow hanafi or jafari school of thought but because of Tableeghis, Deobandis and Panjpeeris they are now more Islamists than Sufis or Brelvis.

Imam Abu Hanifa never wrote a book except the small book of Fiqa Akbar. His disciples like Abu Yousaf and Muhamamd compiled his decrees and fatwas. I have not seen any of his verdict on music. I have studied Fiqa hanafi books from Khulasa to Muheet and Durre Mukhtyar including Munya, Qadoori, Kanz, Noorul Izah, Sharhe Waqaya and I do not remember any verdict on music.

Imam Abu Hanifa was a great rationalist and his approach was mainly based on Quran and Reason. Very few hadith were considered by him. Music may be haram in some false hadith but not in Fiq. Islam is for your beliefs, worship and morality not for fine arts including music.

I am hanafi like most pakhtuns.
I follow the basic principles of islam .
I can not give up my culture for arabs and their wahabyat.
Wahabyat and salafism originated centuries later after the death of muhammad (pbuh).
Imam abu hanifa was great scholer and sufi.
About the music imam azam,s stance was the same as any other muslim scholer.
His teaching of islam was not like wahabis.
I am not religous scholer on this issue so the best thing to do find a hanafi mulla to educate you.
The wahabism is arab culture not islam.
I will keep both my pashtun culture and islam.
I am 5000 years old pashtun and 1400 years old muslim.
Allah created my language,culture and people and as a good human,pashtun and muslim i will keep it that way.
By imposing arabization on others is also against islam.
Pashtu was also our religion and way of life. Similar to islam.
That was the main reason when pashtun leader Qais baba adopted this religion.
