  • Are we Pashtuns Hotheaded and hardheaded?

I agree that MOST of us are very stubborn and hot headed especially our men But to be fair, aren't most young people regardless of ethnicity rather hot headed and stubborn?

What definition is that Nazia? I don't believe in stereotyping and that is why I pointed out that in my opinion most young people of ALL ethnicities are hot headed and stubborn not just Pashtuns. One only has to visit the religion or political threads here to see our Pashtun (mostly) male stubbornness and hot hotheadedness in action lol but these subjects produce the same reactions in other ethnicities as well .

We sit down and he asks me where I was from, I told him I am from Kandahar, Afghanistan. He refuses to believe me. so I tell him I was born here in the USA but I am Afghan, so to break it down I tell him I am Pashtun. The guy says, "Oh you are a Pathan!" and he begins to tell me how in his "Gaow"(village) he has Pathans and they are very strong, hot headed and usually sarzora,(hardheaded) I asked him what he meant he started telling me stories. How we talk Urdu in such a weird way, How we think we are super strong.?
Are we really hardheaded and akhaarot?
Yes, we are quick-tempered and stubborn. And we are also very proud of ourselves.
These things Pakistanis tell us do we really fit these descriptions?
Well we do speak wrong Urdu, or in some case would speak it wrong deliberately, lol (my father still confuses the gender in Urdu and would always say "mein jaati hoon").
Yes, we are proud of our physical strength. And we just don't keep it in our heads, but also manifest our physical strength during fights. For example, there are mighty Pashtun students groups in Pakistani universities and when they are irritated by some non-pashtun folks (sometimes there could be a girl issue..like a Punjabi guy tried to flirt with a Pashtun girl,lol--no kidding!!), there are horrifying fights including use of guns. (Another example...my brother still feels pride in terrorizing his entire class by telling them that he is a Pashtun although at home we were always advised to practice nonviolence.

Are we really naive enough to realize it?
I think we all are aware of it. But what to do when it's in genes, lol.

And Shlombay you still want prove of it....LOL

Pashtuns are overwhelmingly a sensitive people, there is absolutely no doubt about it. I just have to look at my family and friends to know this.
"If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".

"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

This temper clearly exists in my family even though we are mixed but most of the time we are soft and just get on with life..But when theres trouble it becomes a different story. My cousin who was only 13-14 at the time got jumped by 5 punjabi guys in our village and my uncle found out he got soo angry he went over there and confronted them..Grabbed one of their hockey sticks and knocked them all out! LOLL it was soo funny hearing of this.

Levanai wrora is right, we get very emotional! I've seen it happen on this forum wayyyyy to many times.

Your question aside (because I can't speak for everyone), I think Pashtuns are the most baanizakata people on the face of this Earth. This statement might be overflowing with pride, but, from life experiences, and interacting with all kinds of people, from different places, I come to this conclusion.

Of course, if you want some 'evidence', I am happy to share

                        khoshal Khan Khattak says>
La tar ossa ye mazgha pa qalar na dee
cha che ma sara wahallay sar pa tsang de

                        or again he says>
Za khoshal kamzoray na yam che ba dar kram
pa jar jar naaray waham, che khola ye rakra

pashtuns are short tempered not by genes but by environment. Our geography turned us violant. It started from pre-historic times.
Ya in pakistan it is propagated more than we are.
But if we are? is also not fully wrong. In 2004 the punjabi pashtun conflict at QAU islamabad left Naseeruddin of quetta dead, which started just by flirting of punjbais boys with punjabi girls, but classfellows of some pashtun guys. 6 pashtuns students were expelled, and much much happened after this.
Because we cannot decide for the right time of fight or flight.
We want to fight stronger than ourselves and mercy on the weaker.
I will suggest, two articles of saadullah jan barq, published about 10 years ago in monthly pakhto f pashto academy peshawar>
                        Taqat yao kamzori da
                        and then
                        kho kamzori yao taqat de

I am of the opinion zamoong taqat zamoong kamzori da.
I have much to write about it, but now cannot perhaps sometime later.

I really dislike this stereotype of hot hotheadedness because now most of us say it's on our genes but we can control our temper and be reasonable if we try. To say/accept that we can't control our temper is just playing into the hands of our enemies who LOVE to portray us as ignorant fighting barbarians.

Another reason I hate these stereotypes is because I have had friends in Pakistan say things like "I am expected to have a bad temper because I'm Pashtun" "People are shocked to find out I'm Pashtun because I don't have a bad temper" "People are afraid of me because I'm a Pashtun" "People think I'm not smart because I'm a Pashtun" "People assume I support the Taliban because I'm Pashtun"

                            It makes me sad

                              Self-Fulfilling Prophecy

                              Description

If a person thinks we are clever or stupid or whatever, they will treat us that way. If we are treated as if we are clever, stupid or whatever, we will act, and even become, this way. The person has thus had their prophecy about us fulfilled!
