Yes I have also read it that Yousafzai in general migrated from Kandahar to the present day Pakistan and India including Swat. The original inhabitants of Swat defeated by Yousafzais called Swatis(also Pashtuns) now live in Hazara division mainly Mansehra area.
Swat and Kandahar have many many things in common. Language, history, ethnicity, genealogy, anthropology, religion, culture, Pashtunwali and many other things. Indeed all Pashtuns share all these aspects thats why Pashtuns can be termed as an extended family of 70 million ,all like cousins.
Swatians speak hard dialect not soft dialect of Kandahar. A very notable word is JO in Swatian accent as they may say/ Jo saba ba zam. Jo ta zama malgarey ye etc. This jo is a starter or a conjunction without meaning. Also por gharhis(people who live beyond swat river) use a word KOGO for Mr and others some times make a fun of it.
Cuisine of swat is very distinct. You will find the most common dish as rice with yogurt or ghee(asil ghwarhi). Chokanrh or warjaley(rice with greens) is a typical dish there.
