  • Pashtun Matters?

    Assalamualaikum

Is it just me, or is this part of the forum tucked away? Despite our big, bold name, I feel we're just like any other forum (content wise). We hardly discuss 'real Pakhtun issues' that many of us living in the West desire to learn about. The poetry/literature section is dead too. Many of us (including myself of course) do not know the basics of our language let alone the complexity of our culture, and even though we have a forum, it doesnt serve that purpose (as yet). As members here, we should encourage such discussions and initiate such threads. There are very few also who actually post in Pakhto, which is quite odd I think. The current affairs and politics forums are booming by the minute, yet the issues we ought to focus on are pushed under the carpet. Just my opinion; those topics are unique to us, and it should be made apparent to visitors and new members that this is no other forum but one where they can actually learn about us - who we are, what our values/beliefs are, our culture, our food et cetraaa. I want to come here, from now on, not only to pass some time, but actually learn. And I hope we can all help each other do so. My intentions are not to disappoint.

    De Allah pe Amaan.

Most of the members here r living in foriegn countries, so why u r expecting them to contribute pashto material on forum? when they r in same situation like u.

The point I was making was not that we should speak in Pakhto, it was just one of the many things I found we avoid at times. You are right though, we come from different places, with different dialects, so it is hard. My point though, seems has been missed, Khair.

Jodigul, thank you for your wise words. How much they mean to me, you have no idea. As per your suggestion, trust me, that's already happened. I have no expectations from anyone, because expectations only arise when two people bond and grow to know one another, in any form a relationship may be. As for my suggestions, we have seniors on this website, who despite their location, have a lot to share, and teach us as beginners. And if you think this is selfish, then I have no cure for your misunderstandings, because throughout my posts I use 'we', which in case you have missed, refers to us a group, including myself. It was a suggestion open to criticism, and I appreciate you dropping by, but I will add that location is not a barrier in what I ask. Khair, I will leave it at that.

^Stop throwing sarcastic arrows and try to understand what i wrote.
a 50 or 80 year old senior will be not of much help if he is not born in pakhtunkhwa and has not spent much years there. Seniors like tor khan, moks and bls r hardly aware of much of pashtun culture, food and traditions.
Your "real pashtun issues" is totally relative . i.e for me real pashtun issues are political issues unlike issue of identity and langauge crisis of yours.

Jodigul, I have understood what you wrote, probably more than you do.

As for this post of yours, you have proved my point. What I ask is not limited to location. And thus my suggestion. I do agree with you, yes, our issues have taken place on the political stage and obviously rooted from there too. I have no where suggested that they aren't. I was asking that we should, while those forums are growing, simultaneously work on other issues (something you have misunderstood) too and if they're benefitting even one person, that is enough. And no, for your information, not that it will affect you in anyway, but I have no such complex. Keep your personal attacks in your pocket. And instead of giving my words names, speak for yourself. Just in case you don't already know, I don't log on to sweat. So please, let's avoid twisting everything into an 'opportunity' to quarrel.

I know it is too hard to digest straight forward and plain truthful posts , so your meaningless anger is understandable.

the life of common pashtun is much harder and complex and beyond understandable for the ones who shout "mom" and "dad" and eat burgers.
come to afghanistan or pakistan and try to feel and observe this pattren of life if you are so much interested in it.

Guys, I think we're blowing this out of proportion. Sure I understand the efforts into building our community and our website and what not, and I have expressed that far too much, sometimes I feel I am overdoing it. As James said, this is a new place and we have to make it grow, yes. I was only suggesting a *way* to make it grow. To focus on some things that I would like to know about myself, my people, my culture, which thanks to the West, I have missed out on. What I have done is simply come and ask my people to help me (as well as others) learn my roots. If there is anything wrong in that, please let me know. No Nazia, I am not dong anything. I was suggesting we do it together - whatever it may be - but again, seems I have been misunderstood.

Once again, my intentions are not to disappoint.

It's not hard at all Jodigul. I don't run away from my fears. Facing them is the way forward. I am not angry, not in the slightest. I can throw in a smiley if you want ... ?

Well, you see, what my desires are, only God knows. But we don't always get what we want right Jodigul? Delta rasha, alta za baande khabera ne khlaseegi. If I found this as a medium to learn, and asked that we should help each other in doing so, then be it. I can't fly in and out of Afghanistan to learn the basics. In fact, I should learn them while I am here, to be prepared when I go there, no? And, the 'mum', 'dad', 'burger' thing - judgments and assumptions are not nice. I reluctantly will add, that I did have members like you in mind, who are living there, who can shed light on certain topics. Leave it ... it's not getting anywhere. Well, yes it is, just getting bigger.

I used to post material on CK abt pashtun culture ,langauge and traditions as jodigul (not niazi)and used to provide help in the form of info for seekers, but the response of seniors there was diappointing or rather insulting. so i have lost interest in posting such things.

Jodigul you have a chip on your shoulder. First of all, I am not senior at all...far from it. Second of all, I studied and lived a good chunk of my life in Peshawar. I never pretend that I am an expert, but don't throw me into your little generalizations. I don't know why you are still after Moks, leave the dude alone. I am quite sure he knows Pashto culture quite well. Well enough to know his friends from his enemies :-).

^Culture has nothing to do with knowing friends from his enemies. I should'not have name moks, he is a syed, not even a pashtun.
I have spend 4 years in Qatar but i never understand the in-depth knowlegde and pattren of arabism there. I am observing a deep cultural contrast between pashtun those in west and homeland. You people are sensitive about identity and preservation so over-react to events and happenings which seem normal to us.

Afghanlady I have nothing personal against Jodigul. I didn't like the fact that I was put into that list in such a criteria that was obviously not true. I am sure Tor khan saib would feel the same.

Yes the longer people leave their home, the more they are attached to it. However, there are a lot of people who left recently, and they are far more in tune that others. They are even hit harder by the fact that they have lost family members or homes, etc. What do you say then to those that are there and are more adamant on these things than us? If one isn't sensitive at the problems now, then when should they be?

Thus me saying not to give my words names. Though I think you have a lot to offer. The names he has mentioned though, I believe I have learnt a lot from in the past.

Jodigul, being Sayed means you're not Pashtun? Hmmm, to me, the values Mokadaar went by were more Pakhtun than any Pakhtun I have come across, very strong, full of zeal and honour. Really.
