They send me cards to my house telling me how I should help me people since Tajiks are wrongly accusing them of wrong stuff and since they can not speak Pashto they are left with no choice but to leave them, (exact words from them).

What do you think of Linguists? Should I join to help out my Pashtuns?
Are you kidding me. That's BS they are harassing you to join the Army. Cyber World huh. I tell you what never share your name and address anywhere in any forum or other social networks.

Too bad you are trapped. Just ignore them, and try to make sure you don't fool around over the Internet, (You know what I mean).

Also Let me tell you this is the way they want people to join their Army, and God Forbids if you are captured by the hands of Mujahedin, it doesn't matter if you speak Pashtu or not, they don't care about your race or language, they will kill you for sure.

The Pashtun World LOL Are you serious? no Joking but seriously you don't have to be Pashtu speaking qwam to understand the Mujahid's nature. In Islam according to Al Bukhari in the field of Battle against Kuffars the ones are true Ghazi of whom kills first those of Hypocrites (Traitors), because its rightful then, Battle the Kuffars. Which one is more damaging a traitor or an open face to face enemy. Ok Fine lets Assume Taliban are stupid, but the fact remains the same, you are siding with Kufars, you sitting, drinking and eating with Kufars, and those kufars are not innocent but rather warriors of their Land (USA) and they have invaded your land (AFG). so you tell me if it makes any sense at all to side or being next to them. Personally from Islam's prospective I think its better for me to commit suicide, rather than joining them. Its not exceptional unless you are **** istani

You are not siding with them. They bring you someone they ask you what he is saying you truthfully tell them what he is saying and that is it. what is the problem what this?
Dear Jasmine if this project was that simple, just to get ride of this confusion, the war we have today would not have given further support to Taliban. The fact is that Taliban were gone for 2 years when people noticed what we have our streets and what Americans brought was no different from USSR. My Dear you believe in whatever you want. But I tell you one thing, which you have to agree on.

NO KUFAR Would be happy to see your Muslim nation flourish and develop into being advance nation. And never trust them Kufars, they want to make you feel that they are out there to help you.

If you still don't believe me. Why not just Ask this question to yourself. Are these Kufars idiots? why not just give us half of the Cost of their military presence, or the money they spend on this war and take their troops out and we will be able to manage ourselves. After all Money talks, all this Karzai has to do is hire more Military personal and state will be under his control within 48 hours, for another 48 years he can still rule. Money is all it takes.

          Handsome Jan;

Being one of the most popular Pashtoon sites on the Internet today, this Forum was similarly approached (with a promise of funding) if we gave some advertising space for this kind of recruitment. Offer declined.

Translating/being linguist with them = helping them shed the blood of your own innocent brothers and sisters for $220,000/year, eternal guilt and permanent fire in hell.

I realized one thing from this thread, that most of the friends and even admin or moderator Tor Khan. here are favouring Taliban and looking at them as the national heroes. So Taliban have the mass support against ISAF forces. I thought need to be rooted out from the society to have development, but I think, it needs time and Afghanistan is falling back in 1996. In my opinion ok USA is Kuffar or what ever however better helping in getting rid of Arab invaders and religous fanatics, so in my opinion they should be helped through each and every means, not for money but as a national cause.
I know I will be blamed as a traitor, but it is my logic and I think this way, as I cannt forget the time of Taliban regime in Afghanistan and then their brutulities against pashtuns in Pakistan as well.

being a translator for american troops in afghanistan is regarded as being a male prostitute or a pimp in pashtun communities in Afghanistan.

People even use the word " tarjuman" as an insult.

Though I would not recommend you to go to Kandahar and Helmand because those areas are highly dangerous with an increasing mobility of international terrorist groups and their daily engagements with the NATO forces, I don't think if becoming a translator is becoming a spy. I know many translators in the area and they are never asked to do the spy thing or kill anybody. Some translators were responsible for some problems and incidents in those areas, but that was not because they were spies, instead it was because they were not good translators and did not know the local dialects and attitudes, and misinterpretations led to problems. The problem is that to become a translator with the military requires US citizenship, so they hire people who are raised and brought up in the US. Hence, they speak better English, but don't understand Pashto (particularly the local dialects in the rural areas) correctly. I have discussed one of those problems here http://www.abdulhadihairan.com/?p=436 (This I know from my interviews with at least 40 prisoners at Pul-e-Charkhi prison in Kabul. These interviews I had done for a research study for which I had also interviewed many Afghan officials, former Bagram and Guantanamo prisoners including many top former Taliban officials).

so what exactly does a Tajuman do? I know tons of em and they all said they are forced to spy to visit local stores and find out what they are saying.
Then they may have been hired as spies not translators.
As far as I know the translators cannot go to local stores if the area is insecure. If the area is secure, they don't need to use a translator for spying, they can use anybody. And they will never want to lose translators in spying because they always need them. The exact job of a translator is that they accompany the troops when there is a search operation or a humanitarian program (distributing aid). The translator communicates between the local people and the international forces. That makes the translator very important because the translator is their only source of communication. Why they will lose him in spying?
Another thing is that most of these translators are raised and brought up in the US. The locals can easily identify them from their way of talking, dressing, and movements. So it is very hard for them to go for spying. If the forces need spying, they will hire some local people for that, not people brought from the US. In most of the times the translators even don't go outside of their bases. Instead, people are brought to them inside the bases for communication when there are general events. If there are search operations or other events, then they accompany the forces to the location.

I don't know how did you find 'tons of translators' among your friends as the US military has not hired them in 'tons'. They have been desperately looking for competent and able translators who are very hard to find. So where did you find 'tons of them'?

By the way, I have also received many of these messages for translator positions. But I don't like military operatons and programs and I am not a US citizen, I have never showed any interest in them.
