  • Female property rights?

I have observed that most pashtuns don't give property to their females which is compulsary in Islam if the female asks for it. Is this common among your tribe as well. How to get rid of this backward culture. What have the mullahs done in regards to this injustice. usually the friday sermons back home are all about controlling the woman, to keep her pardah, have many kids as God will provide for them and so on. I have never heard a mullah talk about this issue.

    what are your thoughts.

It is a cultural issue. I have heard Mullahs talk about this no doubt in their talks but they can not implement this because they are not the authoritarians.
In our tribe and people, women normally don't demand for their rights of property. The reason behind this is because our relation with our daughters, sisters, mothers is so strong that they do not need it. We provide everything to them even after their marriage.
Some women demand it when they becomes widow or when they face any financial problems. Then they unwillingly demand it from their father or brothers.
I salute our women in this regard that they don't demand for their property.

      As said by brother above,
but you have been misunderstood, they are not the words of a Mullah or a man who wants to control the females, but the words of Allah who ordered the females to cover themselves.

No doubt the pashtun family structure means that females rarely need to ask for their property. Its one of the positive things about close knit family structure.
But as usual there are exceptions to this. What if the female member is married to a poor man and she asks for property? In our culture its considered a shame to ask for property and there are blood feuds about property all the time. My concern is that there is too much pressure on the females to not ask for the property which Islam is rightfully theirs. Its considered a big shame to your family if the female asks for it. It has more to do with mentality than anything else.

Sure the Authorities can help but in most areas there is no authority and the tribal elders make decisions.

The pressure on women not to ask for their property is too great and ofcourse no women wants to bring shame upon their family. I thinks is unfair system. Who are we to deny them what is rightfully theirs. Its clearly mentioned in Quran but maybe because most pashtuns don't speak arabic they are unaware of the serverity of punishment for not giving somebody their property. So its even more imperative that the mullahs talk about such issues in an illiterate society.

Women do have property rights, and Sharia triumphs over Pashtunwali.

Sharia affords many rights to women, including property rights, the right to half of the income of their husband, etc.

The right to reject a proposal, and what not. The right to education.

All these lies spread in the Western media are propaganda.

When Islam was giving protection and rights to Islam, Europe was busy burning women at the stake.

The West is one of the most sexist societies in the world where women are told that they are independent if they wear tight clothes and show their bodies to men. This is actually sexism.

In Khost they have the right to get property ( in most of the case peopel want land) if the father wants to give it and if she wants it then it can be arranged formaly I think its a coupel of years or so, and I think in other parts of Afghanistan must be the same.

true that western media presents some views that may appear to be left of center. I dont doubt this at all. that being said. this is a clear cut case of the pot calling the kettle black. consider that if you accept that there is a narrow minded view of one culture being presented to the world outside then it is only the natural thing to consider that perhalps the information given to you about those outside cultures may be equally filtered. Yes, there are many women who are free to wear skimpy clothing and act without class and decency, and yes, because they are free to do these things that is what they do. That being said, you forget that the vast majority of the common women in the west are good daughters and dutiful wives and dress modestly and act with decency. it is a constant act of faith and a touch of the divine to have the freedom to do evil and to choose not to. To act against our base insticts and obey a higher calling no matter what culture one belongs to or where we find ourselves living is holy

and this is propaganda. nobody has ever told me what to wear or any such nonsense as you have just said. there are lots of genuine criticisms about the west so why make up rubbish?
you dumbas- guys who think everything women do is for your benefit are naive.
you should be working for murdochs new rags.

Badmash, instead of complaining about mullahs, why dont you become a mullah yourself and preach in the right way?

This is not entirely true for all Pashtun tribes. People have to realize that Pashtun are not a monolithic entity when it comes to these things. In our tribe property rights are given to women. In fact there are incidents where brothers wont let their sisters marry because they dont want their sister share of property going to another man even if a cousin.

When the father, husband, brother, son passes away, the mother, wife, sister/daughter in law automatically inherits all his wealth.

Everyone can't become mullah. It needs guts to become a mullah.
Praying five times a day in time including the fajar azaan and then praying is the hardest duty to do. No one can do it except mullahs lol.

Meh... The men in my family don't get their fair share of property. The women? I won't even go there. /rant/
