A lungai is more historical than the pakkol
but i like the pakol cause you'l look like a bad ass especially when ur a pashtun lol.

Pull out your swords and slay anyone that says Pashtun and Afghan are not one. Arabs know this and so do Romans: Afghans are Pashtuns and Pashtuns are Afghans!
KhushalKhanKhattak (1613–1689) was a prominent Afghan(pashtun) poet, warrior, charismatic personality and tribal chief of the Khattak tribe of the Afghans. He is the first Afghan mentor who presents his theories for the unity of the Afghan resistance against the foreign parts, and the creation of a nation-state.
do you know how the umbrella affect is achieved? I have two brown pakols, like the ones worn by wazirwals and paktiawals, both are fresh and flat.
unroll the whole hat and soak it a little till the top and leave the top dry, then roll it up tightly to the top, this should make the rolled part circumference smaller than the top bit causing the umbrella effect.. its not a thumb rule but a personal method ive used, hope it helps

like I said, there was only one reason I pretended to be pathan, for a girl, who was from Afghan forums and also registered here
I also heard that it comes from Chitral from a guy who comes from there. Don't know about it, but i think area from nuristan to chitral always used pakol in different forms.

nuristan to gilgit is pakol country.
gilgit wear it with tight thin roll, often white, and sometimes with feather.
chitrali wear both white and beige, fatter roll.
nuristani wear darker colours, again with fatter roll.
all these people wear pakol with immaculate style and symmetry.
wazir of FATA prefer dark brown with broad top.
pashtun style, especially waziri, is like the 70s american black man style, tilted badass way, again peticulous eye on detail.
pakistanis who are not from northern areas or pashtunkhwa butcher the pakol in the way they wear it. the roll is either flat or loosely rolled, or there is diagonal stitching, or made from unusual materials and unusual colours. no style, no flair. butcher job.

Dear Torkham, could you give some picture examples?

I might be going to Afghanistan this coming summer and I am hoping to pick up a lungee, but they might hard to find in balkh consedering the huge non pashtun population and that fact that it is seen as a more Pashtun thing by Tajiks. But hopefully I have no trouble finding one.
What colours are used for lungay? can you get pistacchio (yellowish green) ?
