Sounds like lots of spamming to me...

              Back @t topic.

Shouldn't Peshawar be the cultural capital... it even has a film, music & fashion industry. One doesn't exist in any part of Afghanistan since the Taliban came and destroyed everything...

ofcourse you like all rich pakistanis would think that.

afterall, my "pakistan studies" teacher in school could never get it through her fat head that i wasnt from peshawar. she used to tell the class (given that they were mostly foreign children) that "pathans are white people from peshawar" and they "dont eat spicy food".
                  .
since you are probably not even pashtun, you dont know.

the films, music and whatever are tasteless dont represent pashtun culture as we know it. and as for "fashion", i am happy that paktiawal women still have their dignity and dont conform to this bollywood image.

our paktia and waziristan is perfect. our namos and nang is intact unlike peshawaris and such. we speak unadulterated pashto, not "choda pandra" nonsense and our women still wear traditional clothes, not shalwar kameez, which actually is for men.

                  so to sum up:

No there is no such thing like what they are doing in Khost, in Khost peopel can't even play loud music during a wedding, becuase they are afraid of someone droping a boom on them and now you say that this is also happining in Khost, Pleas visit it for yourself.
And the video of peshawar is funny, women wearing men cloths speaking Urdu and Eglisch and Pashto at the same time is not a thing that you will ever see in Khost. Let alone a women whitouth a burqa whith tons of make-up.

You were a refugee? My mates from Peshawar-all Pashtuns don't really like Afghan refugees-they expect you guys to be all loyal Pakistan lovers when you cross the border-which refugees never are. Their thinking goes along the lines they come here, take our jobs and make the city unclean... and support terrorism. But I think we should go easy on you guys. Pashtuns on each side are brothers and need to watch out for each other.

But seeing the attitudes of my Peshawarite friends towards Afghans theres no saying what bias and discrimination you may have suffered and I apologize for that. That teacher lacked knowledge. Urban-dwellers of Pakistani society I must say are different... they think they are the only people that exist...

It was the same with us but I broke through the traditionalist thought and decided to explore the lives of the people most affected by the insurgency. The people of Swat & Waziristan about whom I am writing in my book.

Coming to Waziristan, the women even in Waziristan wear the shalwar kameez. I don't know who taught you they don't. When they marry they wear the ganr kat. I am researching and some of my contacts said this. I guess among Taliban families its different where they wear shuttlecock burka 24 hours a day even at home in case a male comes in.

As far as you ignoring fashion, arts, film, music and the other things that comprise 'culture' is concerned I don't think there would be anything left to promote 'culture' if these things are gone.

And there goes the 'I'm a pure Pashtun, you're not' card again... "probably not" How do you know?

To each his own. Everyone chooses a different place I guess as his "Pashtun heartland" then.

Mine is lovely Peshawar, the gateway to Asia.

                            My video:
                            Peshawar-Heartland of Pashtuns - YouTube

Its basically how you define cultural heartland too. If its burka clad women trapped in the house from 16 years to death where their husbands torture them to death its a different story...

If a person accepts arts, movies, fashion, embroidery and women as a part of the culture... then its a different thing and the person will definitely go for Peshawar. No city even comes near in this regard.

Well thats true... Even in Karachi Pashtun children our being taught Urdu... so Pashto is not the average-Pashtun-from-Karachi da strongpoint... was that right from a Karachite? Probably not...

In any case I think we can't ignore arts, fashion and entertainment. We should abandon this futile quest to look as backward and intolerant as possible and accept these sectors as parts and parcel...
