These are my feelings to be honest. I probably shouldn't even comment on this post because of that but human anthropology, while intriguing and interesting in many regards, doesn't really concern me. As humans we have a natural desire to classify and define the world around us and everything in it, including other humans. We feel uncomfortable if we can't break everything and everyone down into easily defined categories.Originally posted by Afghanistan2010 View PostWhy you guys give so much care about people with blue/green eyes and alittel being blond,or something like that.
why you care so much about the races of people.
there is nothing supernatural in a person looking like the first post ...and this guy

You can see on this thread how many people disagree with each other's views on Pashtun anthropology. While there certainly exists common physical traits with Pashtuns and any ethnic group there are also many strange exceptions that people desperately try to explain but never seem to be able to. When one person gives their full explanation for someone's odd traits, another person comes and completely destroys their theory with something else and so it continues. People need a hard definitive explanation for everything. Anthropologically, it's my experience that Pashtuns vary too much to make absolute, all encompassing statements about. I can't explain anything about why or how but I know the red hair/light hair people in northern Kandahar/Zabul area I've seen speaking Pashto, loitering around villages aren't immigrants from Northern Europe.

I agree with Luffy. Pashtuns with blue eyes and blond hair are very few whereas the people of Nuristan, Gilgit, Chitral, Hunza, etc have a greater average of people with blue eyes and blond hair. On the other hand, dull-green eyes and brown/red hair are a lot more common in Pashtuns, especially in Shinwaris, Maseeds, etc.
The "easily distinguishable" part in Pashtuns generally comes from the fact that they are surrounded by Indic peoples and they themselves have features that come across as very Semitic (long noses, hooked noses, long ears, etc) even though Pashtuns are not a Semitic people."If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be".
"Knowledge will forever govern ignorance; and a people who mean to be their own governors must arm themselves with the power which knowledge gives".

aha yhh da red hair ting i have it going for me still in growth doh...Originally posted by Zmarak View PostThe main distractor from his overall appearance seems to be the blond red hair. I'm sure if this same man had dark hair, traditional clothing and a lungee no one would think twice about him in a crowd in Kandahar or somewhere. I've been told red hair is a gene mutation or defect, I don't know. But I've witnessed people with this look in various areas around Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul (saw more people with red and light hair in northern Kandahar near Zabul than anywhere else) and also saw more than a few around Wana in southern Waziristan. I haven't been all over Afghanistan but the places I'm familiar with, there are people like this. As Gulbabo said it's very common in some areas of Aghanistan, I've seen it in Waziristan and this man is apparently Chitrali so the gene must somehow be spread everywhere with Pashtuns and maybe others too (I've witnessed near blonde Hazaras).

The standard skin tone of pashtuns would be "ghanam rung", light wheatish...but he can be fair skinned or dark skinned also...it also depend upon tribe e.g afridis are generally more fair skinned than khalils,... wazirs are more fair than their neighbour bannuchis...yousafazis are more fair than khattaks...etc
It may also have some thing to do with region. E.g pashtuns of northren KPK are more fair than pashtuns of southren districts, who have generally tanned dark skin tones....northren KPK is fertile, green and has good climate while southren KPK is very hot and dry.
I noticed this difference in wazirs, mountain wazirs of waziristan are generally light skinned while the wazirs of plain areas like domail and FR Bannu have generally darker skin tone.
But within tribe variations exists, e.g i have seen lot of fair skinned khattaks, many with green eyes but i have also seen lot of very dark skinned khattaks...
Its not about skin tone, pashtuns have distinct facial features....a fair pashtun doesnt look like a european.
Though facial features of yousafazais especially those of swat are confusing, with clean shave , many of their males do resemble europeans, they have these cute faces, not rough like typical pashtuns.

I agree with Luffy, the people of the plains (cities, towns, flatlands) are more darker than the people of mountains. Its the same with Tajiks, people of mountains like panjshir and badakhshan are lighter than people of kabul city or mazar e sharif. I think its due to the fact that in cities people are more likely to mingle with outsiders and outsiders usually settle in cities when they move to a new place. It could be the climate and high altitude as well. I have read similar things from foreigners who have written about Afghansitan and pakhtunkhwa.

Many Caucasian peoples are originally from Northern India or Central Asia. Haplogroup R1a has a binary distribution in both Europe and Asia. Which is why the Slavs and Iranics have the same subclades of R1a. They also both have Western Eurasian mtDNA.Originally posted by al-arabBut about Polish people. I once heard that they have very similar DNA to Pashtun/Norther Indian people.
The diffrence between the Pashtuns, Tajiks, Punjabis and other Eastern Iranic peoples and the Western Slavs is that Iranic peoples have Indic and maybe to a lesser extent Turkic ancestry. Whilst the Slavs as one might expect have mixed more with indigenous European and Western Asian peoples.Afghan Loghari dance- Homayoun Sakhi, Salar Nader & Mariam - YouTube

It's unlikely you'll see anything of that sort outside of the northeastern areas regardless of the ethnic group but like another poster said, there's far too much variation among Pashtuns to make sweeping generalisations such as 'this is the average' or 'this is what most pashtuns look like'.
Contrary to that, there are a lot of Paktia and Zabuli Pashtuns in my family and they all pretty much look like this:
