Salam aao Pakhairoona
I have been in relationship twice before: once with an Arab girl and second time with a Bosnian girl.
I seriously believe that there is nothing wrong with marrying someone from different culture (I can not say the same about different religion though). In fact I hate cultural influence amongst Muslims it is something that has destroyed the Islam -that is if anyone cares about Islam on this forum as half of Pashtuns are communists and don't really like Islam too much.
However, I do appreciated the influence of culture on us and it will be foolish to ignore it altogether. So best is that one marry a person from his/her own culture and his/her own religion. If that is not possible then one should look for a culture very similar to it but if one can find a person that is totally not influenced by culture and recognises Islam as his complete way of life then he/she is the best option as Islam is the best way of life.
In my two relationships I found the Arab girl was more closer to Islam and the Arabic culture was also similar to Pashtun culture. In case of the Bosnian girl her culture was that of an ex-communist society; she was taught Islam but she had taken on to Islam as a culture rather then religion (if someone want to know more then get in touch and i will explain it further).
I had to eventually walk away from both of the girls as they will not fit into the Pashtun culture, they might have become a better Muslimah but I could not be patiant enough to marry her and wait for the slow evolutionary change.
When marrying someone one has to look for two things:
1, Will that person make a good husband or wife, which includes being a friend and all.
2, will this person become a good parent of your child.
for me the second point is more important, I will hate to see my children being confused about religion.
Comparing the two; I will say that Bosnian lady albeit confused but was a better person.Last edited by Guest; 02-26-2011, 09:31 PM.

like many other things, life too is defined by what it's built by. there are lots of other things that can be the part of a human being's life than just their skin color, language, religion, ethnicity or cultural background. some people limit it by choosing to have it defined as the things mentioned only but others live it a bit larger.
marriages happen between two people who see so much in each other as to dedicate the rest of their lives to each other, not two religions, skin colors or countries. those that do take place for reasons other than that are not marriages. they are called something else...
I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.
non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Re Sangeen's confession:
It's better to be honest; many people out there maybe discover their roots
later and get too influenced by their Western-style milieu
to realize they are making a
mistake which they wouldn't have done had they remained in their own culture.
The best is: Offer up the mistake to Allah [swt] and move forward.
So it's best to tell the truth because other people can learn from the findings of others.
I thought that was kind of interesting and would like to know why he preferred the Bosnian girl even though the Arab was culturally more similar.
It's true: the Bosnians look up to Turks as their model.
I read a great book about a woman's life growing up in Bosnia if anyone is interested.
Unfortunately she joined the Communist Party and used that as a career
springboard. Probably many did.
But her details of Islamic life and unique Bosnian customs prior to Tito's takeover at the expense of Peter II, the rightful ruler of Serbia, are
truly fascinating.
So I personally would like to hear more why Sangeen preferred the Bosnian
after all.
Also I like what he said about too many Pashtuns are Communists.
I had been wondering about this too after observing this Pashtunforums.
As far as ayub's statement " I hate is when Pakhtun marry with old Russian woman for visa" - the opposite case I heard of.
This was famous in Peshawar.
A Russian young lady married a Pashtun man who was studying in Moscow
in the 80s at the height of Soviet influence in South Asia
She married him, a really ugly guy, for a visa !
To Pakistan!
She was miserable under the drab Soviet system and wanted to
gain more freedom. I interviewed this perky blonde haired girl
having heard the rumors circulating to find this out.
It was the first Soviet I ever met.
So the reverse really happened -- at least one famous time.
Later I saw the guy in the PIA line for a flight to Central Asia.
We started talking about Jadran where he was from.
But the girl was nowhere in sight: she had taken off
& divorced him - for unclear reasons.
I felt sorry for the Pashtun guy who looked forlorn.
He must have loved her.

A good question, Roshina, one that many people don't like whatever their ethnic group.
As for the answer, myself, I would marry outside of a Pashtun group. If I may have your ears for a moment, I would say that outside of Pashtun lands you have a paucity of Pashtun people. This rarity poses a problem because the orange cremes in the bad of sweets get consumed quickly, leaving behind the coffee cremes, if you know what I mean.
So it's a question of label and bonganess vs quality. Sometimes one must admit their time is up and dispense with the labels.
(but I'm not saying what I would do of course, until I do it).
