  • So a story

I was speaking with an old friend, and he told me that lots of Muslim in America have lost their values, and are drinking and having sex and all the rest. He told me I have been living in a cave, and that I am sheltered.

So what I want to know from all of you is have you noticed the same thing with Muslims in America, UK, Canada, and the rest of the west.

I come from a fairly conservative family. I have been brought up with very conservative values.

If you yourself date, your obviously not going to admit it, but can you tell me what you notice about Muslims around you, and then Afghans, then Pashtuns.

Yeah it's the norm now. It's rare to hear of Muslims never dating before. Drink is normal too. Most people's parents dont know about it though especially the drink. Or maybe they do, but are in denial.

a polite invitation to start gossiping about others. yeah i am not interested but i am glad to know that you have been raised in a "sheltered" environment. there is no point of raising children in a sheltered environment if you don't teach them about other forms of evil asides from alcohol and sex.

what would we get from talking about them anyways??

I am no bird, and no nest ensnares me.

non commercial would cost less if he was in charge himself which he plans on doing. right now it's n herat but soon it will be in qanadahar.

Seems like he's just curious and probably didn't know. Maybe we need to teach ghundal about it since he's asked without intentional offense.

I don't think he is gossiping as he is not talking about anyone specific. Just wants to know what our generation prefers to do in their social/private life.

Well yes because they still believe in One God and the Prophet Muhammad saw. They're just not practising. Doesn't mean they're "bad" people. No one is perfect.

judging others for whatever reason shouldn't be a hobby specially if you are not so perfect yourself. let's not forget how iblees got to be what he is.

                        Salamoona,

This a good question brother, and I am constantly bombarded with this question in University. Gossip would be talking about someone specifically, here we are talking about trends and demographics and the changing culture. It is true brother that there are Muslims who practice SAD ( Sex, Alchol, Drugs). From what I have experienced it is their parents teachings and their limited knowledge of Islam,

I feel so bad inside when a person in class comes up to me and says why don't you go party with us? I answer no, I don't party, They ask why, I say that I am Muslim and I don't hang out with alcoholics and half naked women! ( Many people will ask you why you don't want to go, so please nobody post that you should say something else, I speak the truth and the truth is I don't do this because I am Muslim.)

Here is where it hurts me, they respond with this, " Well I don't know what kind of Muslim you are but **** (Muslim Person in my University) parties and he is so much fun to hang out with. I avoid this question because it would be wrong for me to judge the Muslim person but it saddens me.

As for your question, sadly brother, I believe that because parents that have come to this country want to not look like extremists or terrorists they decide to join in into the American culture and shy away from their religion, and their children pick up on this and this seems to be the underlying cause. This is what I have experienced from two of Muslim Friends who both hang out with girls, one does SAD, ( I tell them that I don't approve of this but I don't judge them) Confrontations in religion and talk like this is avoided in our generation but I try to break this barrier but I try my best to not judge the person just give him the facts not an order.

But on the positive side, I have seen many Muslim brothers that practice the faith and are very nice people. I have a conservative family as well but I was never forced to do something, I learned from talks, discussion, Quran, Imams, and many other people in my life and experiencesm that have taught me that Islam is the way to go and I feel sadness for the lifestyle that my fellow students in University live (all SAD during weekends).

Don't feel like you are sheltered, I can't thank my parents enough for teaching me my religion and making me understand it (but not forcing it). Listening and respecting parents leads to success.

yes, it is becoming a trend to such an extent that some say it is normal. Just the other day some random hindu guy told me he dated a Muslim girl. I was not suprised as I have heard this before.

I have heard that Muslim guys as well as Muslim girls are now part of this whole scene on college campuses. It is tragic, but also provides us with a moment of clarity. We need to somehow purge these muslims from muslim identity otherwise they will make us all look like a laughing stock.

In the name of modernity, some people lose all shame, and girls don tight clothing, showing their breast and backsides to men, and men wear so much cologne, and clip their eyebrows. They drink and do everything at college, and attend parties with no shame.

I was walking with my friends at night around campus, and I saw a a few Muslims who were drunk- same people who then go to Friday prayer.

I don't want these people to say they are Muslim. they are filth, and need to be casted out.

In Pashtunwali we have strict rules to keep filthy deviants and miscreants out forever.

Islam and pashtunwali are the two stones that make us unbreakable.

Unfortuantely brother, We cannot do anything about this because it is impossible. We cannot force people to do something we can only educate. I am not surprised about this because Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) predicted this a long time ago.

Here is an argument I had with my Spanish friend in University:

I don't know if you have seen the video of Dr.Zakir Naik and Shahrukh khan and other actors/ imams talking about Islam in the media/world. In it Shahrukh Khan said it was okay to not pray or wear hijab.

Here is where this Son of **** actor put all Muslims into a deep hole, he called himself a "Moderate Muslim" Now, my friend belives that a moderate muslim doesn't pray, doesn't wear hijab, is cool, parties etc..

Prayer is one of the pillars of Islam, and I have one simple answer if you don't pray and you say it is okay to not pray when Allah (swt) has ordered us in Quran and Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) has taught us about it then you are not Muslim.

This is the problem, those of us who pray, fast, go to mosque for friday prayer, speak about Islam, stand up for Islam, etc... we are the extremists.

This is the view of my Spanish Friend. Unfortunately I believe this is the view that many Americans hold up, that moderate muslims are those that party, hang out with girls, practice SAD (sex, alcohol, drugs) and the rest of us that pray, and work to understand and implement the religion in our life are extremists.

As far as I am concerned, I don't like the USA because their is so much ignorance of Islam and when people are told the truth they still go back to their ignorance, this happens in a dam University (intellectual area). Give it time soon Muslims that are extremists now will be terrorists and who knows what will happen next...

you are right, but we can make Islam more exclusive. thats the best way. As Pashtuns, also we should make our culture more exclusive to weed out the deviants and miscreants.

otherwise, soon we will become a joke.

Exclusivity is the only practical answer.
