I love, love, love my parents wholeheartedly. They are the first ones I always mention in my duas.

I know within Afghan/Pashtun culture, once a girl is married......she lives away from her fathers home, and now adopts her husbands household....i dont hold onto that sort of mentality. That is why i always made sure when i get married/engaged, that the man i marry loves my parents as much as I do, possibly even more. Alhamdillullah I am being granted that =)

I usually dont think that a daughter or son loves their parents more....its not a competition. Its what is in your heart with appreciation and love. The amount my parents sacrificed to give me a better living, I couldnt have been more glad/proud of their accomplishments.....especially my mother! Coming from a strict conservative family that usually does not allow their women to be educated, she proved them wrong and became a doctor, in two different countries, mashallah!

I know for sure, my parents want each of us to hold a position in taking care of them when their old age comes around.....and i couldnt be more happy to do so. I of course would love for them to live with me........in fact, i plan on them to do so, but then again, whatever makes them happy and comfortable.

I work at a nursing home, so it breaks my heart everyday when i see elders that do not recieve at least a phone call from their children, grandchildren, etc. Its hurtful to watch when they are upset on mothers day, birthdays, etc. I dont ever want my parents to feel this, not at all. If need to be, I will spend my whole life dedicated into taking care of them.

Till today, i still lay my head on my mothers lap.....and i will continue even after marriage

This is a difficult topic that needs to have some parameters set. Are we talking about living in Western Society or Afghanistan?

I live in USA so I will speak from this perspective, however I hope after I finish my studies I can get the hell out of this country ASAP and all forms of western society (too much hatred toward Islam/Muslims I cannot handle the ignorance).

It is almost impossible to fit parents and a newly married couple in the same house in the USA (trust me I know my 2 parents 4 kids and then my uncle and his wife and 1 child). We are probably average middle class people and it is hard to find a big house in the USA and for it to be affordable.

From my experiences in many courses, I cannot think of anything worse then not taking caring of your parents and sending them to Nursing Homes (One of the other biggest reasons why I want to get the hell out of this country). I don't know if anybody feels, but I feel so much heartbreak when I see old ladies working at my college's cafeteria, all it takes is a slight bump from the football player to break her bones

Anyways, back on topic, I would believe that the son should take care of the parents. If this is not possible then living closely is probably the best idea, but never leave your parents because you will never succeed.
