  • Major Pashtun urban centers

    Peshawar, 1439205 (1218773), 85% Pashtuns
    Queta, 901328 (733675), (not known)
    Kandahar, 391000, (not known)
    Mardan, 300424, almot 99% Pashtun
    Mingora, 227331, almost 100% Pashtun
    Jalabad , 200331, not known

    Kohat, 151427, almost 75% Pashtun

Above are major Pashtun urban centers with total population and %age of Pashtun population. But can some of them be called true urban centers e.g. from the stand-point of (communicational, educational, health, etc.) infrastructure, industrial development, media existence, civic society presence and activation, cultural plurality, aesthetic and artistic creativity, etc.?

How many of the above cities/towns have a good level of urban sophistication?

Toramana, those numbers are really inaccurate. Kandahar Province has over 1million inhabitants, and it's a dominant Pashto speaking city. A city where without Pashto, you can't survive. Since Kandahar was the capital of Afghanistan twice, it has the necessary infrastructure for a proper administration. Kandahar served as the capital of Afghanistan during Ahmad Shah Babas empire, and it served as de-facto capital during the Taliban era.

A line[Durrand line] of hatred that raised a wall between the two brothers -Hamid Karzai

For generations, the Hindus of India prayed for deliverance from "the venom of the cobra, the teeth of the tiger and the vengeance of the Afghan."

The men of Kábul and Khilj also went home; and whenever they were questioned about the Musulmáns of the Kohistán (the mountains), and how matters stood there, they said, "Don't call it Kohistán, but Afghánistán; for there is nothing there but Afgháns and disturbances." Thus it is clear that for this reason the people of the country call their home in their own language Afghánistán, and themselves Afgháns. The people of India call them Patán; but the reason for this is not known. But it occurs to me, that when, under the rule of Muhammadan sovereigns, Musulmáns first came to the city of Patná, and dwelt there, the people of India (for that reason) called them Patáns—but God knows!

Admin Khana, I quoted the figures above from a site...But I find contradictory information about the population figures of Kandahar. Probably, the whole Kandahar district has one million population not the city...

Here is Wikipedia article ...I don't know reliable are the quoted figures.
