            What a TERRIFIC find, S. !

It was so great for me to read...
I enjoyed that travel writing style of earlier decades: cheerful but informative.
Today nearly all articles are tacky-sounding.

To think that the Tourism official's plan for hunts for "Mongolian tiger" got derailed by a small revolution 4 yrs later, then a major war exactly a decade later....when will that plan ever come to fruition?!

All the description of Kabul is so interesting for some of us who have never been there.

Amazing that the number of tourists visiting increased so dramatically, from
            436 to 44,000 only 10 years later.

I daresay it will be some time before a new Tourism Ministry gets set up and operating smoothly.

Very enjoyable article which takes one back in time.

The part about the generosity of the Afghan hosts was SO CUTE !
It demonstrates WHY the country was SO POPULAR with overland travelers to India

A guy I knew who lived in Kabul pined away when he had to move after the Soviet invasion.
Wonder if he's back there now...
He couldn't stop talking about how wonderful life had been there for a foreigner

If you find more material like this, be sure to post --

Really, I'm still back in Kabul.
It's difficult to snap back to the present day and place !
That's how good a job Peggy Durdin, the writer, did of bringing
              Afghanistan alive.
