No. Pathan is those Pashtuns who migrated to India and became indicized. Pakistani and Afghan Pashtuns are the same people.Originally posted by Kaushika
majority of Hilly Rajputs are the product of these cross breeding and want to disassociate with their past. rajputs with rajwadi surnames consider themeselves superior but those native kings who look darker gets mocked as "gola" (mix breed, son of rakhile) so they actually invite light skinned rajputs and kshatriya tribes from Jammu region such as jamwals to sleep with their women so that their wives can give birth to pure white looking Native Child.

Brothers, this topic rears its stupid head time and time again.Originally posted by Traveller View PostNo. Pathan is those Pashtuns who migrated to India and became indicized. Pakistani and Afghan Pashtuns are the same people.
Pathan is the name Indics have given to Pashtuns/Pashtuns/Afghans. In reality and historically it is the outsiders name for Pashto/Pakhto speaking folk. The British when they came to the subcontinent picked it up from the Indics and possibly the Mughals who most probably had Indic scribes.
Pathan is not a separate ethnicity to Pashtuns. The reason believe are tying to make others believe it is different is this:
The Indians who claim to be Pathan probably had Pashto speaking forefathers who migrated there. With the passage of time their children lost their Pashto. However, their descendants did not want to lose the credibility which came with being a "Pathan" and they cling to it fiercely. They do not share any of the attributes anymore with the original Pathans (Pashto speakers) yet will not let go of the fact they are Pathan. With time people have come to feel that it is some sort of caste. So now people think Pathan and Pakhtun/Pashtun are separate things. Utter nonsense. Hell, there is also some theory about the word "Pathan" having a meaning-lol- it has no meaning. It is a word of Indian and now Pakistani usage which describes Pashto speakers.
I do not feel Pathan has always been a derogatory term. If any of the older users here have watched any Bollywood movies featuring "Pathan" characters and understood them they may notice that Pathans have always been shown in an extremely good light and have been put on some kind of pedestal. I'm talking about Indian media in the past. I do not know about now.
Pakistani media on the other hand would ridicule Pashtuns and the same anchors/hosts doing this would then claim to be "Pathan" themselves.
If users here still can't grasp this concept I will draw a parallel with another ethnic group which live in North Africa. This group is known as Berbers by outsiders but they don't call themselves Berbers they call themselves Amazigh.

Berbers are a group of Different Ethnic groups that have a common root. And I know Pathan and Pashtun are not seperate ethnicities. I was just explaining what is meant when some list those two groups seperately.Originally posted by Charsi Malang View PostBrothers, this topic rears its stupid head time and time again.

Nice extract your raw data and upload it on gedmatch, you can try the various admixture calculators to check your population match.Originally posted by Asal_kandarai View PostLittle about myself, my father is from Barakzai tribe in Kandahar and mother from mohmadzai/Popalzai tribe from Maiwand/Kandahar. As far as my family can remember they haven't married people of another ethnicity.

So these results include DNA from Yemeni to Egyptian to Punjabi to Chechen. I guess it doesn't make anything much clearer.----------

I think the data shows that my DNA matches 96% of Pashtuns and 70% of chechens and the others.
What I take from this is, the colored eyes in my family come from Chechen blood, I thought it was from British since my grandfather is from Maiwand.

I think Genetics has less to do with phenotype in comparison with the enviroment, Kashmiris being the prime example they have more south Indian admixture than punjabies but are fairer than punjabies, same with Kalash they have more South Indian admixture than us but are generally lighter skinned than us.

Yes pretty much, your skin colour will only account for a few of the 700,000 snps that are sequenced.Originally posted by Elite PakhtunI still remember those pieces of garbage asking US presidents, when they visit, stuff like "why can't we (India) teach them (Pakistan) a lesson?".
